I noticed this good bug fix last night :
Did you explore powertop to investigate this ?
I own a X220 (i5 2520m / HD3000) laptop. The power usage is very good (roughly 10h with 94mWh battery with common wifi internet and backlight usage)....
this option exists, I do get it in proxy settings (gnome-shell). Maybe because last updates.
Ok thanks...
And I complete your personal opinion with https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1112652 .

solved for newer 3.9 kernel, but Raring needs backport :
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1112652
sorry, not a lot of time :
1) try reselect your background image
2) use lightdm instead of gdm for normal background
3) use lightdm instead of gdm for non-buggy multi-screen behaviour when...
did you try :
sudo dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig
?
maybe related to

and the bug report

You could maybe post the model of your wifi card...
Do you have some old home-made-scripts in /etc/pm/sleep.d ?
we have to wait some 3.9 backports, and this time imho it will be fixed :

Same issue with 3.8.0-13 Ubuntu kernel. Must be a power management issue. If you look at the "control" file when AC is plugged, it is set on "on" instead of "auto".
And the good news are :
from :

As the author of the bug report ;) I wish this fix to fix this mess.
I'll try 3.8.3 as soon...
Hi,
Since the today's (raring-proposed) update of desktop-file-utils (that affects /etc/gnome/defaults.list), when I choose e.g. "File system" in "Places menu" extension, the folder is opened by...
read that...
looks like that yes, it was 3.9 preview, as these changes on e1000 are listed here :
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.9-rc1-raring/CHANGES
Do you know if the changelog in :
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/daily/2013-02-27-raring/
is dedicated to Ubuntu's 3.8.x or 3.9 ?
There are some e1000 and iwlwifi interesting...
autoremove now clears the <= #-2 installed kernels... ;)
the first one exists in the official repos and works ok.
I've got exactly the same problem, and I can guarantee you that it is solved for me.
I did a lot of commands, with not a lot of success. I did not remember the exact sequence...

yep : update/upgrade now ! It works.
If you can't : sudo apt-get remove gtk2-engines-pixbuf
and the packages which need this one (audacious, for my case).
There's something wrong, I do not know if it is related : when I turn off the wifi switch of my laptop, the wifi icon remains activated. The same behaviour happens with ethernet (when activated).
...
Well, I do not find the bug you quote to be nearly the same as mine ?
I tried the daily ubuntu kernel but nor progress. Maybe is it an upgrade (from Quantal) issue ? But ethernet used to work fine...
