3.9-rc3 is here:

I was having a problem installing 3.9-rc2, but reinstalling debconf sorted it out.

That's strange. The errors have come...
I stand corrected. I didn't realise that, by default (i.e. ignoring the advanced cli option which gives a choice of kernels), the server and desktop installs now use identical kernels.

I was too slow for your edit!
You should just be able to do:
sudo dpkg -i --force-overwrite /var/cache/apt/archives/gnome-shell-extensions_3.7.3-0ubuntu1_all.deb
Since I have to stick with the nvidia 304.x series, this is what worked for me.

Downgraded nvidia-current to the previous version

Thanks ronacc - yes, I noticed that your driver version wasn't the same as mine!
I'm using nvidia-current-updates (my graphics card isn't supported by nvidia-current unfortunately):

Hi Vin,
I did think about trying to patch the previous version based on your posts in this thread, but there seemed to be some conflicting views on the nv forums so I held out. This is the update...
Some good news for those of us who can only use the legacy nvida driver now (i.e. latest nvidia-current does not support our graphics cards).
paul@raring-64:~$ apt-cache policy...
I'm in the same boat. My graphics card isn't supported by the latest nvidia-current. The kernel module built ok with 3.7-rcN I think, but wasn't loadable.
I've switched to nvidia-current-updates...
I don't see them?!
Thanks Vin.
Damn. Thought they might have been there with rc2.
