  1. [ubuntu] Re: Flashback session (gnome-panel) looking exceptionally good.

I'm using Ubuntu 18.04 with Plex server. Decided I try Flashback to see if it would save on ram use. Ubuntu default is about 1200 mb ram at boot launching neofetch. With Flashback it is 652 mb ram at...

Re: Who else is eagerly waiting for 20.04 ?

I really liked 16.04 it seemed about perfect and very fast. For whatever reason 18.04 seems more bloated, feels slower, though it looks very polished at the same time. I'm hoping 20.04 gets back to...
  3. [ubuntu] Re: Flashback session (gnome-panel) looking exceptionally good.

That's not bad memory use, though I thought it might be a bit less in flashback. I usually check from a fresh boot, launch neofetch in terminal to get a reading with nothing else open on the desktop....
  4. [SOLVED] Re: Cannot updgrade Xubuntu from 16.04 to 18.04

So you are upgrading with a Live USB? I haven't tried that, but have thought about giving it a shot.
  5. [ubuntu] Re: Flashback session (gnome-panel) looking exceptionally good.

Just curious, how much ram are you using with Classic compared to regular Gnome?

Re: Have to click " ESC " to boot properly

Use blkid in terminal to determine the UUID of your swap partition.

Find the one that doesn't match your /etc/fstab and remove it using a text editor to put the correct UUID's into /etc/fstab...

Re: Who else is eagerly waiting for 20.04 ?

I'm satisfied with 18.04 ATM. Hopefully 20.04 will be great, but I like to wait until at least the first point release anyway, so no hurry here.
  8. Re: Installing ubuntu onto a USB stick broke my Windows Master Boot Record (MBR)

Just for future reference--be careful where you are installing grub when you install Linux onto a USB stick. I'm guessing you installed grub to SDA instead of SDB, or wherever you usb stick was...
  9. [ubuntu] Re: Brightness control not working Radeon R4/R5 Graphics on Dell 3541

You would have to upgrade to Ubuntu 16.04, then Ubuntu 18.04, that's why a clean install would be best. Depending upon your computer, do you have another option/way of installing Ubuntu besides...
  10. [ubuntu] Re: Brightness control not working Radeon R4/R5 Graphics on Dell 3541

I'm not an expert on this, but since no one else has responded my advice would be to install the newest LTS Ubuntu release 18.04. That will get you a newer kernel and perhaps some updated drivers...

Yes, Firefox has gotten heavy on Ubuntu. Suggest Chromium or Chrome. Also use extensions to block ads, tracking cookies.

I like that Lewis quote also.
You might try switching to audio books for awhile, still a nice reading experience but a nice change up.

Debian has become much easier to install and use in the last two stable releases. On older hardware it pretty much works out of the box, you will need to enable 'contrib non-free' in sources to get...

I just switched to Chromium on my 32 bit machines. Don't really notice any difference. You can even sign into Google and get all your bookmarks, etc., with Chromium.
