Eventually I found out what the problem was for me. The process causing the trouble was lm-polling-daemon which belongs to laptop-mode-tools.

I have now removed laptop-mode-tools and reinstalled...

I have a BenQ Joybook S73G which does about 3h on Windows XP.

With Ubuntu 9.04 it does only a bit more than one hour.
