Thanks for your work with this script!
I have just used it to build:
diskcopy
ntpasswd
pmagic
sysrcd
tinycore
ubcd
I have 2 netbooks - Asus EeePC 701 (4G SSD) and Acer Aspire One ZG5 (8G SSD). I have Jaunty Netbook Remix on both and find it to be excellent. I actually think the Asus EeePC feels peppier than the...
Yes, provided the other configuration conditions are met as per the first post.

Sorry to hear of your unpleasant experience!
The inclusion of "server webcache accept" was at the request of many who wished to use the dansguardian box to filter other boxes on a network - it...
Its certainly to be hoped that Squid is not running - it shouldn't be!
Please see the the other thread where you asked the same question concerning Clamav issues.

You are not doing anything wrong.
Unfortunately this is an issue that requires further tuning for it to work. It requires user authentication for the proxy server (tinyproxy). I am not sure if/how...
I think your issues will be to do with this. Sorry, I don't have time to work it through at the moment.
--Tony
And you did check that you have the entry in /etc/firehol/firehol.conf
that reads: server webcache accept ?
--Tony
Firstly I am assuming you have done this:
Your other systems on the network must have their proxy settings set in the browser to point to the ip address of the dansguardian system and port 8080.
...
You really need a separate router or dedicated box with firewall connecting to the internet. The filtering can be done by the Ubuntu configuration with DG, firehol and tinyproxy as above. If you were...
Might need some more background info. . .
Did you do the install as per the first post here?
Have you made any other modifications?
Is it still the same after a complete restart?
--Tony
I think there are a few complications there if you mean installing on your cpu1.
You can have one of your workstations do the filtering and other systems point to it as explained in the first post...
Sorry, we would need to know a bit more clearly what you mean. Can you clarify what you want to do.
--Tony
Thanks for the kind comments.
When I first began looking at locking the prefs I read up about such things but found the Ubuntu Firefox cfg is not encoded - by default it has an entry to disallow...
OK I have updated the first post with instructions on how to use with other networked systems.

Unfortunately not (without hacking into the scripts which probably isn't what you want to do!). The only option is to use synaptic and opt to "completely remove" dansguardian, firehol, and tinyproxy...
Briefly, this script is for setting up dansguardian on a single desktop system - you seem to be wanting a setup to serve a number of systems which will be quite a different arrangement.
--Tony
Further to above comment about the script installing successfully:
Xubuntu : also requires that gedit be installed to enable the gui to work for changing the filters.
Kubuntu : everything...
I recommend the script that automatically installs dansguardian (with firehol & tinyproxy - as above) along with a smart graphical front end to change filters that has been put together by Jereme...
Thanks Jereme.
It seems to install very well. Incidentally I have successfully set it up on Xubuntu and everything works fine (adds menu entries also).
Well done!

Hi,
I tried the script and it appeared to run giving GUI feedback on the steps - asking for password, changing repositories, installing packages, changing configurations, installing gambas -...
Not sure if you seen this howto that I put together for dansguardian:

Perhaps it may be helpful.

Another simple to setup filtering option if you use Firefox is to use the extension blockxxx. Unfortunately it has not been available for Firefox 1.5 but here is an updated version:
...
Glad that it is working!
Here are some changes that I have made to filters etc. for searching images and also for stopping access to secure proxy sites.
1. Modify the file ...
