  1. Re: UNR9.10: Crash/hard lock after logging in

Ok, so as a little bit of an update, Windows 7 installed from a USB fine, and everything works without a hitch (Wired network, wireless, USB 3G dongle, bluetooth, etc), and any disk checks turn up...
  2. Re: UNR9.10: Crash/hard lock after logging in

Where would I get the SMART data from the HDD?

And no, I'm not sure what service is making it crash. When booting without the "quiet" GRUB option, I don't get any errors, and I'm not sure where...

[SOLVED] Re: Can't boot from USB LiveCD

So I've managed to get it to boot off a LiveUSB by disabling ACPI and the like, as well as using a shiny new USB drive, so this problem looks like it's solved itself...

[SOLVED] Re: Can't boot from USB LiveCD

It had worked before, obviously, since I had installed UNR 9.10 on the netbook using a USB drive. That ran fine for about 2 months until it started freezing up with a kernel panic yesterday. While...

[SOLVED] Re: Can't boot from USB LiveCD

I've tried a number of different USB sticks with a few different distros, and they've all failed to run properly.

I ran MemTest for 8 hours overnight, so I don't think it's a memory problem.

[SOLVED] Re: Can't boot from USB LiveCD

I've tried Ubuntu 9.10, Ubuntu 9.10 Netbook Remix and Kubuntu 9.10, all of which fail (although Kubuntu gives a different error).

[SOLVED] Re: Can't boot from USB LiveCD

Netbook, so no CD drive ;) And I can't mount the ISO if I don't have an OS to boot into.

As a further update, I've re-written the .iso to the USB drive, in case it was corrupted. It'll boot to the...

[SOLVED] Can't boot from USB LiveCD

I'm trying to boot off a USB LiveCD of Ubuntu 9.10 in order to save some data off a botched UNR install. However when I try to boot off said USB drive, I get this error:

[SOLVED] Re: EeePC 1008HA Wired network not connecting

Ok, so this is going to sound really stupid, but it turns out that the IPv6 settings were the problem. Previously I had IPv4 set to Automatic (DHCP), and IPv6 set to Automatic, but it was only trying...

[SOLVED] EeePC 1008HA Wired network not connecting

Not sure if this should be here, or in the UNR board, but here we go :P

I picked up an EeePC 1008HA about a week ago, and pretty much the first thing I did was nuke XP and play around with a...
  12. Poll: Re: When Windows 7 comes out what are you going to do about it?

I've been using the beta and RC1 for a while on both laptop and desktop, so I'll probably migrate to the release version fairly quickly. As much as I love Linux in most it's flavours, there is always...

Re: Holy crap! Moblin Beta 2 is looking good!

Out of curiosity, how difficult would it be to modify Moblin to run properly on nVidia GPUs? Would it just be a matter of modifying the kernel and adding a couple more packages? Or would it be more...

[kde] Re: Terminal can't find Java JDK

Cheers mate, that did the trick (javac was in /usr/local/jdk1.6.0_u7/bin/).

Out of curiosity, if I was to update to a different JDK in the future (eg JDK 6 u10 or whatever) using either APT or the...

[kde] Terminal can't find Java JDK

Alrighty, so I installed NetBeans 6.1 and Java JDK 1.6 Update 7 using the downloaded file from the Java website, and everything is installed correctly. However for reasons I don't quite understand,...
  16. [ubuntu] Re: Dell Vostro 1510 + Ubuntu 8.04 compatibility?

I actually haven't had any trouble with the wireless (I'm using the standard Dell A/B/G wireless card), although I did have some some trouble with the wired card (dual booting Vista + Ubuntu, and...
  17. [all variants] Re: Access ext3 from Windows or NTFS from Linux

I'd be inclined to make it an NTFS partition. The various Ubuntu 8.04 versions (Ubuntu, Xubuntu, Kubuntu, etc) all have the NTFS-3G driver enabled by default, and I haven't had any issues with using...
  18. [ubuntu] Dell Vostro 1510 + Ubuntu 8.04 compatibility?

I'm hopefully going to be getting a new laptop in the next few months, and right now it's a bit of a toss up between a Dell Inspiron 1525 and a Vostro 1510, with me leaning towards the Vostro.

[all variants] Re: best 12" laptop for Linux?

How much are you looking to spend on the laptop?

The Dell Vostro 1200's seem fairly nice, and don't look horribly over-priced for their specs.

Lenovo also has a few nice 12.1" laptops, but are...
