it sounds like you installed windows 7 after having installed Ubuntu (not a good idea) can you confirm this?
it seems like you need to delete/move some files on your / partition probably files in /home
if you need a lighter version you could try lubuntu 14.04 a light weight version of ubuntu

is it an internel drive (inside your computer) or an externel hard drive e.g. a usb drive
and what file system does it use?
