[PPC] Re: Testing 13.04 Lubuntu PPC

I have been running 13.04 since late January and have always been impressed. I abandoned 12.10 for it. 12.04 will be my main squeeze for a while yet but 13.04 is very promising on the horizon.

[PPC] Re: Firefox 19 on PowerPC

    You're 100% correct.

That is the avenue I would normally take in say the BSD world but I am still a bit of a Linux novice in terms of instincts of where to go for tested fixes. I am a BSD user...

Thanks but that contains all the same info that I linked to. Simply a different page. Granted that your link is an official bug page.

[PPC] Re: Firefox 19 on PowerPC

    Just found a fix!

Go to about:config and change the following string from true to false by simply double clicking the line: image.high_quality_downscaling.enabled

    Now it renders all images...

    [PPC] Firefox 19 on PowerPC

This is not a question but rather a calling to all PowerPC Ubuntu users to see if you're having the same Firefox 19 issues I am.

It works fine for me other than many images get a blueish tint over...
  6. [ubuntu] Re: Which line of Apple Mac hardware is traditionally the most compatible with Ubuntu

Sorry but I have to totally disagree with the all in one recommendation "iMac71" makes. All in one computers are only practical in terms of space but in every other aspect they are covered in...
  7. [all variants] Re: What GNU/Linux distributive works on macbook air A1466?

I have no experience with running Linux on a MBA but I can tell you from other experience that it generally doesn't play as nice on over-engineered Apple hardware. That means systems like the MBA,...
  8. Re: Just installed Lubuntu 12.04 on eMac, need Airport drivers

Not sure if you have a standard or extreme card so here are the methods to enable both:

  9. [lubuntu] Re: Do I leave the .DMG file extension?

[ubuntu] Re: Completely new to Ubuntu

The best and most thorough method would be to backup Mac OS with TimeMachine first. After this boot from the Mac OS DVD and partition the drive the way you want. Then restore Mac OS followed by...
  11. [PPC] Re: Which Distro for Powerbook G4 1.5Ghz? Advice Needed

Sad to say but it looks like Arch Linux PPC is dead. The site has been down for the last 3-4 months.

    [SOLVED] Re: Mac laptop

In my experiences there are generally always issues when OS X and Linux share a drive. When possible you should dedicate a drive to each. This is tricky when you have a laptop but you could always...
  16. [ubuntu] Re: 12.04 + Macbook 2,1 = S-L-O-W bootup

I imagine it is Unity that is taking so long. It became noticeably more resource hungry and slow in 12.

I recommend installing GNOME and the GNOME panel. Not only will GNOME give you a much...

[kubuntu] Re: How to get the Gnomenu in KDE?

In my experiences with using KDE based stuff in Gnome or LXDE some works and some doesn't. For example I use the KRDC VNC in LXDE without issues while a few other KDE based items I have tried either...
  18. Re: sound in iMac 2009 / ubuntu 12.04

Glad you found a fix. Config files are about the best/easiest way to get things just the way you want/need.

Try mouseemu for more controls over the mouse. It's config based also.

[ubuntu] Re: Apple Ibook G3 - Won't Boot From CD

I have never tried it on a G3 but I do know from experience with some of my peers that use G3 systems have much better luck and performance with Debian PowerPC.

  20. [gnome] Re: Gnome blank screen and power management with nvidia weirdness

In all the years I have been using Linux the one negative constant has been issues with Nvidia GPU. There are generally always fixes but only because there are almost always issues. Sad but true.

[kubuntu] Re: Kubuntu 12.10 for PPC?

Kubuntu is still developed as far as I know. The only member of the Ubuntu family that has seemed to stop PowerPC development is Xubuntu. Ubuntu and Lubuntu are the most used distros so they tend...

  25. [lubuntu] Re: Lubuntu on a Powebook G4 15" 1.67Ghz

12.04 installs almost never mess up and boot to the live desktop without issue. I have done at least 45-50 12.04 installs on about 20 different Macs and none of them needed anything but the live...
