[ubuntu] Re: lxc, rose and nr

Oops, I meant Lucid as a host or guest, not LXC. Too late to edit now.

    Oh, and bump. ;)

    [ubuntu] lxc, rose and nr

    Morning forumites.

Searched for this but didn't find, etc.

I've been messing around with LXC on my Lucid LTS Server. Created a few Lucid containers, struggling to get them to work (apparently...

Despite my chirpy post above I had some trouble too. Here's the config I ended up with:

    --username notmyusername
    --password notmypassword...

    Thanks dentaku! It works! :D

(but ... reboot your PC instead of just running the program? Seriously? :P )

    Thanks for the reply.

I'll try that. It will still tell me about impending hibernation events, right?

    [xubuntu] "power manager" distractingly spammy

    Hi all,

searched for this but didn't find it.

I keep getting "power manager" popups telling me either "battery charging, 2 mins to complete" or "battery draining, only 6 hours left" (depending...

Re: a lot lot queries about c++

The C math header works well enough that there's no point writing a new one just to call it "C++'s own math header".

Maybe the new C++ standards (TR1/C++0x, and the newer C++1x) have some higher...

Re: a lot lot queries about c++

All very interesting. Anyway, to get back on topic, we all agree that memory leaking is a Very Bad Thing and should be avoided. Yes?

Re: a lot lot queries about c++

That's pretty cool. The kernel protects itself. That makes sense for a modern OS. So you wouldn't crash the kernel, but you would cause the kernel to crash your program instead. Still less than ideal...

Re: a lot lot queries about c++

In fact, in the case of Boost.Filesystem, the equivalence between operator/() and operator/=() holds. It does what you would expect: assign to a the result of appending path b to path a. So my...

Re: a lot lot queries about c++

Possibly nothing. It depends entirely on context. The meaning of the operators can be anything or nothing.

For example, take operator/(). What does this snippet mean?

    a = a / b;

    In the...

Re: a lot lot queries about c++

No. Forget what we know about math symbols for a moment. Let us replace "ValueSum" with "a" and "Value" with "b", to save my fingers. :)

    a += b;

    is (usually) shorthand for

[ubuntu] laptop Lucid forces VTY 7

Got another puzzler here. This Lucid 10.04.2 LTS system hasn't given much trouble up to now.

Suddenly, it's trying to force VTY 7. I can go to (for instance) VTY 1 as usual, but two seconds later...

    [ubuntu] PuTTY closes on F6

I'm not sure this is meant to happen. I'm looking at 'htop' in my SSH session and pressing F6 closes the session. My intent is to send an 'F6' to htop, not close the PuTTY window.

    Any ideas?...

Re: Is there an Xcode type IDE for Ubuntu?

It really depends how similar you mean. I don't believe there is an exact replica of XCode, but I can heartily recommend Code::Blocks.

    gcc: autodetect my library, please?

    Hi all,

I've written a library, libReu2.a. It works completely except that I have to specify the full path each time I use it, even if it's in /usr/lib. The linker just doesn't see it. If I have...

    Try this:
