Thank you, but that did not help.
The two plugins Gstreamer element audioconvert and Gstreamer element videoscale still cannot be found.
After upgrading from 10.10, Banshee simply won't play mp3s, but Totem produces an error message:
Totem offers to search for a suitable plugin, but does not find GStreamer element audioconvert....
Oh yes, it can be a very good idea to turn it off, e.g. when you're running an old version and don't want to be bothered by it telling you that the update information is outdated. :)
Is there really...
Hello,
I have multiple live versions of Ubuntu on a USB stick (as iso files), and I am wondering if there is a way to assign each of them their own casper-rw container file to save settings on.
...
Maybe the 4.x version of Puppy will work better. Or other derivatives, such as Puppy Turbo Extreme and Puppy PULP.
There's also Slax, but it looks like even that might require too much RAM:

Hello,
I'm running the live 10.04 CD from a flash stick on a touch-screen PC (Motion J3500), and amazingly enough, everything worked out of the box.
However, I want to create a special...
Hm, different kernel, I have to try that...
When I upgraded from 9.04 -> 9.10 -> 10.04, 10.4 froze at the login screen (no mouse, no keyboard -> hard reset).
And when I try to run the live CD...
Hello,
I tried installing 10.04 from scratch from the live CD (run from USB stick via unetbootin), but couldn't because whenever I clicked on the Install icon the system came to a screeching halt...
No, it did not.
Oh well.
Let's see if disabling the power saving daemon does the trick.
Shoot, that wasn't it, either. I guess 9.10 and my laptop just don't get along.
Hello,
I am looking for a way to change the colour of some of the applets, such as Volume, Network Manager and Shutdown as I can hardly see them anymore against my current background. It doesn't...
It doesn't appear to have anything to do with powersaving and screen savers.
My current theory is that somehow the home directory encryption is to blame. So I re-installed 9.10 without that and...
Thanks, but how would this be a power-saving or a screensaver problem? It happens in the middle of, say, moving the mouse around, or clicking. I mean, I'm willing to disable all kinds of things if...
Hello,
Under 9.10, my laptop frequently freezes up and has to be hard-reset. At first I thought it was a Firefox issue because it happens most often when I'm on the web, but the computer also...
Looks like my problem has nothing to do with the browser after all... I just had the system freeze-up while looking through Synaptic with no browser open.
Iron was kind of slow anyway,...
Duh, I should have thought of that... I'll give Iron a try.
Hello,
I am experiencing serious problems with Mozilla-based browsers - FF, Seamonkey - that are really spoiling my Ubuntu experience: they like to freeze up in the middle of doing something and...
There is no need to log out.
Just start Applications/System Tools/Configuration Editor (you may have to enable that first via System/Preferences/Main Menu).
Then navigate to...
Mouse is working fine again for me too. And I didn't try anything to fix it. Must have been one recent update or another.
For me, the problems with my trackball have disappeared after one of the recent updates.
So all that's still bugging me are the (FF-related?) freeze-ups.
Hm, maybe FF has anything to do with it... just had another one of these freeze-ups while I was trying to change some Grub 2 settings... although FF was open at the time, so who knows.
This has happened to me twice now... I'm doing something in Firefox when suddenly it freezes, taking the entire system down with it (elderly HP Pavilion laptop). No mouse or keyboard input is...
You just need the KDE runtimes, not the whole package. All that stuff gets installed anyway when you grab something like Amarok, or, what I found particularly useful, KGrubEditor (I so wish that gets...
