    Re: Best flavor of Ubuntu

Yeah...I just mentioned Lubuntu because it can be less of a shock to the system, at least on a casual observation.
I agree that NO flavour of Linux is going to suite as a replacement for anyone...

    Re: simple backup software

If it's just files and folders, why not just drag-and-drop?
  5. Re: Which filesystem for Linux on a slow USB stick ?

Benchmark that and throw up some screenshots.

    I'd like to see it.
  6. Re: Which filesystem for Linux on a slow USB stick ?

You're completely at the mercy of your USB's read/write speeds. File system types will have, for all intents and purposes, no perceptible difference.

But this is an "emergency OS", so none of this...
  7. Poll: Re: Why is Linux more powerful than Windows ?

What about users wishing to pay for Linux based products?

Crossover? Paid Redhat support? Paid Canonical support?

    Re: does Bleachbit work?

You realise you're probably also erasing cached files when you run BleachBit, right?
That's why some applications seem to run slow, or slower after you run it.

There is nothing that newer NVIDIA drivers have that will benefit such an old card as that.

    Re: So what now.

There is no "change" as far as everyday users go.
None of systemd implementation is visible to workstation users.

systemd (or init) has nothing to do with "70's style terminals".

Re: upstart, systemd, Canonical and Debian

The legitimate tension was/is in the developer community.

Most workstation users complaining about "Get this EVIL systemd monstrosity off my computer!" are simply arguing for the sake of blowing...

Re: Things that you dislike in Ubuntu

I believe much of the frustration was aimed at the Metro interface. The OS itself is reasonably secure.

I'm not convinced that much of the systemd fury I've seen in this thread and elsewhere is even understood by it's detractors.

You're asking a lot from drivers that won't help an under-powered machine...even if id does technically meet the minimum system requirements.
