It is an advantage to have a static IP set on the device. It can either be done on the device itself, or your router.
If you configure it on your device, take note of the 'Gateway' and 'Subnet Mask'...

Hmmm, so booting off the disc is a no go, what did you use to burn the iso?
I just drag the file to Disk Utility and hit burn.
