    Re: FSF Petition

    Nope.

As I've said before, to MS this is nothing to do with Linux, it's about improving security.

    Re: FSF Petition

Even though I'm in favour of secure boot, I'd like to see switches to disable it become either required or present in the majority of UEFI. It will be interesting to how long it will take for LILO to...

    Re: FSF Petition

This is not just going to effect Windows security; it will actually improve the security of any operating system running on the computer.

Re: Did anyone else see this?

Comparing Linux to a car doesn't make it immune to criticism because it's a bloody operating system, not a car.

    Re: FSF Petition

Uh, yes it does, and there's a lovely new feature in Windows 8 called "reset to factory settings". I'm not going to dispute your point that Secure Boot will allow OEMs and Microsoft to have some...

    Re: Aaaaaa !!! Impossible !!!

Pretty much agree with this. Besides, who seriously turns off their computer on a regular basis? Everyone uses suspend/hibernate/sleep now.

    Re: FSF Petition

Why would the licensed need to be changed when there is already a fully functional Linux boot loader that is BSD-licensed?
  13. Re: Lxde rocks :d

I'm actually amazed by this. :o Did you have to use any workarounds or lighten it up or did it just run out the box?

    Re: Aaaaaa !!! Impossible !!!

    I think it's a fair comparison, after all, Unity is alpha-quality. :)
  15. Re: Google Loses. Microsoft Wins - 50% Android License Fees to MSFT

So a corporation that violated another corporation's patents is paying up. How does this effect anyone unless they are a Google or Microsoft employee and why should I care?

    Re: FSF Petition

So yeah, this is basically a load of paranoia and FUD from the FSF about something that hasn't even happened yet.

    Re: FSF Petition

Secure Boot definitely doesn't threaten the entire world technologically, since there will be an option to disable Secure Boot and BSD-licensed boot loaders will not be effected.

Re: Debunking the debunking of the 1% stat

When you use Google, it is more like someone using a highly modified and proprietary version of Linux for you rather than you using it yourself.

If someone is using Windows because it came with their computer, what ideology are they following?

Re: Debunking the debunking of the 1% stat

Including offline computers will not change the percentage by much because there will be computers with other operating systems installed that are not connected to the 'net.

    Re: FSF Petition

Of course, it isn't GPL at fault for not allowing signed code, it's Microsoft's fault, because they are out to get Linux.
