After some playing around the device finally lists as a device under Mobile Broadband. Unfortunately it doesn't connect regardless of what I choose in the settings wizard.

Shows up a USB storage device icon in 'Computer' now, and the command:

dmesg | grep tty

Results in:

In a last attempt before I 'throw in the towel', I used Synaptic PM to install the USB Switch modes that nearly every post regarding this issues mentions.

Don't know what to do next however.

I tried to get it working under WINE but it won't allow it. (something about blocked executable bit).

So people really have this device running under Ubuntu?

Anyone know what the above means?

Thank you kindly for your assistance. I did the wizard but no luck. My device doesn't even show up as an attached device in NetworkManager applet 0.8.

This command:

dmesg | grep tty

Results:

Everytime I plug it in it shows as a 'Next G ZTEMODEM' icon on my desktop and a CD drive in 'Computer'.

If I run:

sudo lspci -knn


I get this:

When I connect the usb modem, it shows up as a CD drive. I then click on Safely RemoveDrive and it says:

Error detaching: helper exited with exit code 1: Detaching device /dev/sr1
USB device:...

Shows up as a device on the desktop, (had to eject it). Then shows up a USB drive in 'Computer'.

Any ideas how to make this work?

I did re-download both the alt version and the the normal version.
the alt version is slightly smaller (689mb) compared to the normal version. The alt version...

CD. ISO file is a tad over 699MB.
CDBurnerXP says it's to big 702MB.
Windows 7 in-built just errors.

Having issues burning ISO image in win7 to CD.

Have tried 2 different burners, 3 different discs and 3 different burning programs. All come back with errors.

MD5 checksum is correct...
