The Thinkpad Edge series has good compatibility with Ubuntu. It has some of the features of the T series with a "nicer" look. The Dell Xps 13 was chosen by Dell for their Ubuntu developer laptop, so...

    Package hosting for indie developers

After the near-downfall scare of Ubuntu-Tweak, I was wondering if anyone does any hosting for developers that are limited on resources? I was thinking of setting up a VPS with a simple website and...

Re: New PC build give your opinion

When I use Windows 7 in an VM, I never give it less than 1.5GB ram. Windows is getting pretty heavy these days.

Also, I didn't catch it before, but I would suggest an extra HDD. That 120GB SSD is...

  15. Re: Now that the Unity hate has cooled down, how do you feel about the WM?

I agree. I liked what I used to be able to do with Gnome. I wasn't locked into the customization that was included with the environment. I could shape my desktop to fit me, not the other way around.
  16. Re: Now that the Unity hate has cooled down, how do you feel about the WM?

After using Natty when it was first released, I was really sceptical about Unity. I used it for a while until I was irritated with the bug that caused the system to lock on my T420. I have since...

Re: New PC build give your opinion

But with the low price of ram any more, why not just buy as much as your budget allows. Personally I would suggest at least 8 gb, especially if you are going to use any VMs.

    [all variants] Re: Virtualization Server?

If I understand what you are asking, I think you should be able to run the VM's on your gaming pc, enable remote display on each VM, and remote to them on the P4 boxes.

[SOLVED] Re: Improve sound quality for a Windows guest

Since your CPU is a quad core with 4 hyperthreads, I wouldn't allocate that many cores to any one machine. I am sure that you could use 4 cores just fine.
