    I'm sorry to tell you but you will have to reinstall what you have just uninstalled, and be a little more wary of automated package management

    Switched to the non-free version of VBox anyway, easier usb support :)

    if installed from deb it should show up in synaptic, you can right click and select "completely remove"

    or as I would prefer, from the command line

    sudo apt-get remove --purge <package-name>
