  1. Re: Lack of response to critical issues on launchpad

  2. Re: Lack of response to critical issues on launchpad

Fingerpointing is not the answer here. Canonical ship the "stable version" of the driver. If it's crashing, they should pull it and revert to stable via an update. And at the least they should post...
  3. Lack of response to critical issues on launchpad

As somebody affected by https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/973096, I've lost faith in Canonical's process. I fully understand that software ships with bugs, but a)...

  5. [ubuntu] Add a rating widget to sound menu or top panel?

Is there a way to add a rating widget that applies a rating to the currently playing song in rhythmbox? (I don't like having to click to the rhythmbox window to rate the song, as it interrupts what...

  7. [ubuntu] How do I add command line args to apps launched via dash?

I want to add a command line argument to chrome's startup, given that I am writing a javascript app which I need to debug, and find that the "page is unresponsive" dialog gets in my way.

    The...
  8. [ubuntu] Re: Need help mounting (or extracting data from) possibly corrupted filesystem

Hm, update. Found "foremost", which I'm trying. Will edit this on success. Still could use some advice on the mount question.
  9. [ubuntu] Need help mounting (or extracting data from) possibly corrupted filesystem

A friend of mine corrupted his camera card while on vacation; he was unable to recover many photos from it via his windows system (he tried a bunch of photo recovery apps, and got maybe 30% of his...

    [ubuntu] Emulate3Buttons not working (NVidia)

Is the mouse configuration now done via HAL for USB mice? If so, how do I re-enable middle click? If not, why is my middle click not working? I've set Emulate3Buttons to true/yes/TRUE/YES in...

[ubuntu] Re: 11.04 cannot mount two of my disks

I fixed this by fscking the disks.

    E.g.

    sudo fsck.ext4 -y /dev/sdc1

After doing this, they mounted just fine.

[ubuntu] Re: 11.04 cannot mount two of my disks

To be clear, the USB drives are not the ones I'm missing, and they were mounting fine on boot.

However, I tried the experiment you outlined - unfortunately with no success. Same deal with both of...

[ubuntu] Re: 11.04 cannot mount two of my disks

    See above. They won't mount.

sdc1 gives me the error that it's already mounted (it's not, and won't umount).

sde1 won't mount because mount doesn't recognize the file type.

    I should also...

[ubuntu] 11.04 cannot mount two of my disks

I did a fresh install of 11.04. It didn't let me choose custom mount points for my disks, so I left non-system partitions unmounted in the installer. Big mistake. It seemingly screwed with two of my...

    [kubuntu] Re: SHIFT+NUMPAD works strangely

Settings - Input Devices - Keyboard - Advanced - Misc Compatibility Options - Shift with numeric keypad works like MS Windows

It's a lame default, but at least the option is there.
  19. [ubuntu] Openoffice calc - cut and paste isn't doing the right thing

This is best explained with an example. Check out the attached spreadsheet. Column A's cells have formulas; A1 = B5+C5+D5, A2 = B6+C6+D6, etc.

Highlight C6 with your mouse, press ctrl X (or right...

    Re: Lucid Beta 1 - doesn't boot

My USB issue in fact went away. Hopefully it doesn't return. Now, it fully boots. Plymouth is indeed the issue, so the bug has been changed to reflect that.

By the way, for those who have the same...

Removing plymouth gets it a lot further. Now it's complaining about /proc/bus/usb not existing.

    Lucid Beta 1 - doesn't boot

I upgraded using update manager from 9.10 on my spare desktop, to see if Lucid worked.

Unfortunately it doesn't - it freezes at boot.

I've tried all three kernels available, and they all freeze...
