Well it happened with me as well, I had to re install Ubuntu again, but use the live disk and check if your HDD files are there.
NTFS refers to "New Technology File System", hope that did answer you.

Well, after using windows for long time, Linux isn't bad actually, it's just more advanced than windows, that's all. Plus people here give you help faster than I expected, which is far better :D
