    when someone says codecs, they are usually referrring to digital video and audio. infact, i don't think i've ever heard/read text encoding formats having codecs. :)

    lol, i don't get you. japanese codecs (??).

    french and german ones are rather good.

    ...as i believe much of the work on x264 and xvid are done by french and german developers.

    mig5, how did you get activex enabled in IEs4linux? i lowered the security settings and set activex to "allow" in that section, and it still tells me that my security settings do not allow activex.

    is anyone else able to reproduce it?

    i tried it on two different systems and repo/latest versions of wine (with winecfg set to 98, 2000 and XP). also tried on cedega, still nothing but this.

    What exactly ARE -dev packages?

    i want to compile the x264 encoder, and for that i obviously need libx264-dev.

    there is several months difference between the date of the latest x264 source (from the official site),...

    i had to do everything via cli. if i have to turn of beryl each time, guess i'll just continue doing so. would be great if beryl could be disabled for certain apps though
