Re: Lubuntu - One Stop Thread

Ah. The mixed blessing and curse of (I think) update-alternatives. I'd forgotten about that. Sorry!

Re: Lubuntu - One Stop Thread

Because there's a game called chromium, the web browser package is actually chromium-browser. Try apt-get removing that instead. Unless of course you knew that, in which case, ignore me. :)

Re: Lubuntu - One Stop Thread

Battery/power management worked fine on my 11.10 system-try doing a fresh install of 11.10 or 12.04, upgrading can often be dubious in quality.

    Pdelthbridge-I'm sorry, I don't understand your...

Re: Lubuntu - One Stop Thread

If you mean "What size difference does adding synaptic to the Lubuntu iso make?" then "very little" is the answer. Lubuntu does without all sorts of things Ubuntu has, so we skip on them instead.

Re: Lubuntu - One Stop Thread

All memory will (or there would be a serious problem!) be returned to the operating system when the application dies. I believe "leaking" memory is something else, whereby long-running programs use...

Re: Lubuntu - One Stop Thread

Brilliant, glad you liked it. :)

Btw, I can't remember which menu it's under, (on ubuntu at the moment), but under one of them, there's "open folder as root" which saves you doing gksu all of...

Re: Lubuntu - One Stop Thread

Lol, no, if it was running faster, the CPU would simply sleep more. :) So it would actually be cooler.

The only thing I can suggest is to run top in a terminal and see what is taking the...

    Re: Wine problems

Well, you need a .desktop file. This is a combined icon, title, tooltip, and command file. These appear in /usr/share/applications, and are what appear in lxpanel and cairo dock.

    Can you post how...

Thanks big Lizard, it's appreciated. :)

Note that you can always press SHIFT after BIOS to access grub, you can then boot a previous kernel to fix the next one.

Re: Lubuntu - One Stop Thread

I think it's dependent upon if it is in the official repo or not, (as opposed to PPA or whatever)-for instance, it doesn't show itself, or lxscreenshot.

    I'll file a bug.

Re: Lubuntu - One Stop Thread

    That's why it's *lubuntu* software center. :P

It boots around five times as quickly as Ubuntu's on my machine.

It's meant to get even faster, too, as we're porting to vala, rather than python.

Re: Lubuntu - One Stop Thread

If you have the PPA enabled, you already have it. :)

Here's how you can get it:

    1. Tarball on launchpad, stable release.

    2. PPA daily (relatively stable) builds.

    3. Bzr branch from...
