I'm getting this on Precise. Recently it happened as a Chrome desktop notification appeared. For now
unity --replace will make it go away. We need to find out if a bug has been filed for this.
To be fair, while I did rant a bit myself, this thread is an exception IMHO. In particular, the Tutorials & Tips subforum has some very good and well-documented step-by-step instructions.
This thread disappoints. Seriously.
I've got a Ubuntu 10.04 desktop system connected to my HDTV. I maintain it remotely mainly through SSH and the CLI.
This includes things like upgrading...
I found a solution to my problem. From the ssh man page:
My new command line:
ssh -f user@host.lan '/usr/bin/shutdown -p now'
So I've got a backup server that has a daily cronjob to back up all my systems. My desktop PC is usually in sleep mode to save power. So my backup server has to wake up the desktop via wake-on-LAN...
It's cool to see this script continually evolving. Thanks for the fixes for Karmic. I haven't had to rip DVD audio in a while, but I probably will need to again in a couple months when Meshuggah's...
Thanks a ton for this fix. I have tested it and it works great. With this now implemented, Karmic is dare I say, fully functional on my 900A.
Only two config file edits are required to get...
Looks like you're using "backticks" or some other special characters instead of double quotes. Try this:
gvfs-mount "smb://bob/data (d)"
Notice the vertical alignment of the quote symbols.
Paste the command you're using when you get the > prompt.
Try it like this:
gvfs-mount "smb://bob/data (d)"
After some cursory testing it appears that the Windows share browsing feature in Nautilus was possibly broken in 9.10. The good news is that if you know the name of the share that you want to access...
I think there's a new bug going around, possibly with 9.10, that's making this process more difficult than it was in the past. I'll update this thread when I've had a chance to do some testing.
Found the bug report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm/+bug/437429
Some workarounds are posted. Worth a read.
I'll file a bug report on this later today. I simply want to disable the login sound without having to alter system files.
I guess the sound feedback is good for some people, but consider using a...
I use exim4 + smarthost to my ISP email. This allows my cron jobs to send me email about their status. exim4 is very easy to configure in ubuntu, just run
sudo dpkg-reconfigure exim4-config...
I'm also getting this after upgrading to 9.10. The problem only occurs when launching mplayer from the MythTV frontend. I've tried these mplayer switches with no luck:
-vo xv
-vo x11
-ao pulse
I'd like to add that this fix is still necessary to get smooth response and multitouch working on the 900A running Ubuntu Karmic 9.10.
Running Ubuntu 9.10, I can successfully turn off the wireless by pressing the wireless switch function key. The blue wireless LED goes out and Network Manager disconnects.
Problem is, I can't...
Will the new NX support work with Nomachine NX? I have always used it because it's easy to install. The last time I tried FreeNX you had to muck around with a lot of XWindows settings that I'd...
What are the benefits of the nogui version? A cursory look at the links you posted and a Google search doesn't give me much. I mainly use mplayer with MythTV.
amd64 torrent doesn't work for me but the i386 and netbook remix torrents are going steady.
Thanks for your feedback! I'm glad this method has helped with your Windows/Ubuntu network setup. Frankly, I'm surprised there aren't more threads and guides about helping Ubuntu play nice on a...
2fort was a cool tourist trap back in the 90s but now it's all about gravelpit. :P
