It depends if JDownloader uploads any of that information elsewhere - but in any case, most routers disable external login connections unless specified in the router's settins.
Did it ask you if you wanted to install it alongside Windows? ("Split the hard drive between the two")
That is because it is trying to connect to the internet to install the drivers. Put the Ubuntu CD in the drive and try it again - it should install them from the CD (like it did when it was in LiveCD...
Say, when you were installing Ubuntu, did it ask you where to install it? As you may have just installed it onto the very same USB drive you were using, instead of onto the internal hard drive.
Change the graphics settings then.
Most of those old topics and guides will work just fine.
The CoLinux project is interesting - it runs a tiny version of Linux inside an exe file, and behaves just like a virtual machine - but it integrates seamlessly with the desktop.

Uh, there are heaps of games out for Linux. Hell, Unreal Tournament has Linux binaries.
And blender is the 3D application of choice for Linux users, and it can do everything 3DS Max can. In fact,...
Perhaps Ubuntu should set the screensaver not to lock the screen when the user has chosen to enable automatic logins.
