    [ubuntu] Re: Date format

It's simply beyond me how a desktop environment that made it so far can lack such a simple setting.

What's more, the web is full of frustrated people trying to find a way to change regional...
  2. [ubuntu] Re: Is there any way susped/hibernate could work properly under ubuntu?

    Mystery SOLVED.

The problems for me was that I was suspending the computer using the Fast User Switch Applet which, according to some bug reports, has issues with flushig user input or something....
  3. [ubuntu] Re: Is there any way susped/hibernate could work properly under ubuntu?

I am seriously starting to believe that this is a gnome issue...
  4. [ubuntu] Re: Is there any way susped/hibernate could work properly under ubuntu?

I found this message after wakeup:

    [ 119.817793] Corrupted low memory at c000e3cc (e3cc phys) = 00004000
[ 119.817853] Memory corruption detected in low memory

    Wonder if that has something...
  5. [ubuntu] Is there any way susped/hibernate could work properly under ubuntu?

It seems to work w/out problems while saving to disk and waking up, but after it restores gnome this "Shut down the Computer" dialog with shutdown options just keeps popping out and I can't close it...
  6. [ubuntu] Re: Using TrueCrypt to encrypt one users home folder...

Depends on what you mean by "safe"? :) I think with a right encryption algorithm and a strong password/keyfile, it should offer a decent amount of security...
  7. [ubuntu] Re: missing "regional settings" 24h vs 12h clock+

The 12/24h clock solution is besides the point here - the real problem is that there is no centralized regional/locale settings in gnome as, for example, in KDE...
  8. [ubuntu] Re: missing "regional settings" 24h vs 12h clock+

I was thinking the same thing - all other systems and desktops seem to have a "regional settings" option where you can set all that, but it would seem that gnome has none...
  9. [ubuntu] Re: Using TrueCrypt to encrypt one users home folder...

I did exactly the same thing and it serves my purporse, however, I would like tc to unmount after I log off or on shutdown (seems kinda messy to leave volumes mounted during shutdown).

    Does anyone...
  10. [ubuntu] Re: Apple like Icon Tray/Dock that really works with LPIA Ubuntu?

Maybe this could be of some help, just ran into it - it's called Cairo Dock and apparently can be run without a composite winmanager...

  11. [gnome] Re: can only get 640x480 resolution on monitor

install envyng-qt and let it download and install latest nvidia driver.
  12. [ubuntu] Re: Looking for a new Music Player to manage my music

I've been using Amarok for ages now. I think it's the best there is for organising my music, creating dynamic playlists, suggesting music from my library according to my last.fm account, and a lot...

[xfce] Re: How to start Compiz automatically

I think --replace pretty much does it, you don't have to run it every time.

As for the cube, just enable it in compizconfig under System/Preferences.

[ubuntu] Re: Ubuntu, virtual machines and WIndowss

I've an Intel QuadCore 2,4GHz with 2GB RAM. I'm running XP in VMware and everytihing works very slick. Even AutoCAD 2008 works like a charm. ABBYY FineReader 9.0 takes some time on larger files...
  16. [ubuntu] Re: Apple like Icon Tray/Dock that really works with LPIA Ubuntu?

    Hm... well, panel properties/orientation/bottom? :)
And what gets messed up? From what I can see, looks OK, just need to change panel orientation to bottom... Or not? :P

    P.S.

  17. [ubuntu] Re: Apple like Icon Tray/Dock that really works with LPIA Ubuntu?

well if compiz slows the machine down, I suppose you don't want to give it any extra load, so if I were you, I'd give up on rendering all those fancy icons altogether... Maybe just have the old panel...
  18. [ubuntu] Re: Apple like Icon Tray/Dock that really works with LPIA Ubuntu?

Re: Things that you hate in Ubuntu

There is only one thing I hate about it, and that is the fact that suspend and hibernate NEVER worked for me (and I've changed 3 boxes by now)... On the same boxes, winxp suspend and hibernate worked...
  22. [all variants] Re: Logitech Quickcam, I think i know why they won't work.

No it is not a v4l device. Ekiga sees nothing, skype sees nothing, /dev/video0 does not exist. I've been tampering with some retarded gspca module whole afternoon now, but it won't compile.
    I'm...
