  2. Re: Hey, I missed this place! Also I have something cool to share!

No no those were made after the Windows 8 one, but they were using operating systems from the earlier years :)

You'll notice that some say '80s and '90s years!

And thanks for the welcome ^_^

  3. Hey, I missed this place! Also I have something cool to share!

    Hey peeps!

    Anyone remember me? :)

I kinda just missed having somewhere cool to discuss technology and OSs I guess! Plus I'm still a Linux-oholic!

But, who knows maybe the reason was this...
  4. [ubuntu] Ubuntu Server with Lighttpd and PHP seems to be caching and eating all my RAM

    Heya peeps :)

    Ok here is what happens!

The RAM starts at about 1.1gb used. It then slowly uses more and more and more as the server runs and serves my sites, until the RAM is all full (the...
  5. [ubuntu] Re: PHP processes keep overwhelming my server, eating up the CPU and making it lock u

For the record erm, I managed to put a fast and I think fully working server together by installing Ubuntu 12.04, then ZPanel, then memcache, APC and Varnish, and then switching Apache for Lighttpd....
  6. [ubuntu] Re: PHP processes keep overwhelming my server, eating up the CPU and making it lock u

I really think it's PHP processes getting "locked up". The more I allow it to start, the more they stack up and the longer it takes for them to clear ._.

    Hi mips :)

And yeah I do still like KDE. I feel it is very fleshed out and still a very aesthetically pleasing GUI, although I was a tad disappointed when I went back into it after spending a...

    Should be cool meeting them!

I always end up coming back to Ubuntu Forums! I tried posting my server query on other forums but you just don't get the same size of community, friendliness or...

    Hello again everyone! ^_^

    How are you all? :)

    Hoppi here waving hello!

I was posting in the server support section as I am currently building a server (software) for a few sites I run, and thought I'd poke my head...
  13. [ubuntu] Re: PHP processes keep overwhelming my server, eating up the CPU and making it lock u

One issue is that even after I disabled all searches by removing the search.php page, the server still died in the same way.

Only by closing the forum completely (and just leaving up the shoutbox,...
  14. [ubuntu] Re: Setting up ufw on with Lighttpd, Varnish, MySQL, etc?

    Agreed yeah.

To be honest... I probably don't need one when all this has been factored in!

I just assumed it was the "done thing" for a server but didn't fully understand why!! I too figured...
  15. [ubuntu] Re: Setting up ufw on with Lighttpd, Varnish, MySQL, etc?

Sorry for my silence! I had other issues on my server that took my attention that's all :)

Also erm, my friend said that closing unneeded services that are listening on ports is the simplest way...
  16. [ubuntu] Re: PHP processes keep overwhelming my server, eating up the CPU and making it lock u

OK erm... in response to the posts...

Seiji - I suspect that the variety and complexity of MyBB searches may be a bit too much for working out indexing? Wouldn't it take aaaages? >.<

    Doug S -...

Very good observations and comments guys!

I think you're both right there!

Hm.. I know little to nothing about indexing... I may have to learn about that!

And we do still need to look into...
  19. [ubuntu] Re: PHP processes keep overwhelming my server, eating up the CPU and making it lock u

My friend who does this stuff for a living (I believe) thinks it's due to the size of the forum database. The MyBB database is about 350mb, and we're thinking that some MySQL queries are taking a...
  20. [ubuntu] Re: PHP processes keep overwhelming my server, eating up the CPU and making it lock u

I'm really close to just giving up and installing cPanel but I don't want to :(
  21. [ubuntu] Re: PHP processes keep overwhelming my server, eating up the CPU and making it lock u

Here's what it looks like when it happens:

    http://snag.gy/VzRm8.jpg

It usually stays like that for ages shuffling processes loads and the server may never recover until I reset it manually.

  22. [ubuntu] Setting up ufw on with Lighttpd, Varnish, MySQL, etc?

I tried allowing port 22 and port 80 both TCP, and yet it still fails.

It's set to deny all by default incoming and allow all by default for outgoing.

SSH and SFTP still works and SOMETIMES...

    Heya guys.

I set up a Debian Squeeze (I hope you don't mind me posting here - I love Ubuntu too and they are very similar, plus you have a great community here! I actually wish I used Ubuntu...
  24. I am looking for cool, benevolent game coders! ^_^

Basically erm, the game isn't designed as a Linux game per se but does run through Wine and this is covered by the official website. It used to be pay-to-play but is not free-to-play and the reason I...

Re: Does Xubuntu need a bit more love?

Yeah, apparently the bug that caused the Cinnamon freezes/crashes was fixed a couple of months back, that's what one of the Mint forum staff told me :)
