    Sick of this forum

This forum has always annoyed me with its Draconian approach to moderation. Until now I've just put up with having posts wantonly deleted by moderators. Now I apparently need to have my posts OK'd...

Re: Whats the story with Open Office?

Most users don't care at all about the difference, they just want their software to work. In that regard neither project is really that successful IMHO. And both names are pretty terrible. Names...

[SOLVED] Re: Put a older linux kernel in a live cd?

    With your imagination!

No, really you would only see text and alt-tags for images. It works well for things like Wikipedia, forums, etc. but not for things like Youtube :).

Re: What do you like about Gnome 3 ?

The fact that I can replace it with KDE.

[SOLVED] Re: Put a older linux kernel in a live cd?

    1) It doesn't really matter that Lubuntu 10.04 wasn't LTS, because the only difference between that and the Ubuntu 10.04 LTS is the desktop. So all the important bits will still receive security...
  7. [ubuntu] Re: best DE (or lack thereof) for taking notes without battery drainage

You're right there, you can always turn that off though.
  8. [ubuntu] Re: best DE (or lack thereof) for taking notes without battery drainage

It doesn't really matter that much. The DE will normally use very little of your CPU and thus not increase battery drain that much. Things like turning down the screen brightness and turning off...

Poll: Re: Unity affinity and your primary hand

Your wording of the choices is pretty bad. As people have pointed out, loving a DE is kind of strange. Also, I could get used to Unity, there are just far better options available for me. You...

[kde] Re: Wobbly Window in KDE

System Settings -> Desktop Effects -> All Effects -> Check Wobbly Windows.
  11. Re: Which coding language is the fittest for the future?

I can't tell if your post is a joke or complete nonsense.
  12. Poll: Re: Poll: what is the best replacement for Files (the new Nautilus)?

So you think that applications should be written to allow you to substitute libraries that do the exact same thing so that you can save a few megabytes of hard drive space? That's a lot of work for...
  13. Re: Which coding language is the fittest for the future?

The scripting language vs. programming language thing is largely irrelevant now. It used to be that programming languages were compiled and used for big projects and scripting languages were...
  14. Re: Which coding language is the fittest for the future?

    Allow me to disagree :).

There are a fair number of people programming in C++, but very few of them actually know the language well. Because C++ is so ridiculously complicated, it has some of...
  15. Poll: Re: Poll: what is the best replacement for Files (the new Nautilus)?

The overarching issue here is the philosophy of Gnome of making the software as simple as possible. KDE has been panned for having too many options and features, but look at how Gnome fans react...
  16. Poll: Re: Poll: what is the best replacement for Files (the new Nautilus)?

I said they likely wouldn't make Dolphin default, I'm just saying it's the best. And even without official support, KDE still is way more functional and polished in general than Gnome/Unity/Whatever.

Re: EVOLUTION and MS Exchange 2010

Ugh I'm sorry for you, getting Exchange to work properly with anything other than Outlook is a nightmare. I abandoned trying to use a desktop client and just use the Outlook Web Access.
  18. Poll: Re: Poll: what is the best replacement for Files (the new Nautilus)?

Dolphin is file managing perfection. It has tons of features while being snappy and slick looking. I doubt that Ubuntu would include a KDE app by default, but it really is the best of the bunch. ...
  19. Re: Which coding language is the fittest for the future?

You didn't give a whole lot of info, but Python is a great language that is pretty well adaptable to most tasks. And it has lots of tools and libraries available on Linux.

Re: Someone stealing the Ubuntu logo?

Ubuntu made 4 people into 3, the opticianclub changed the color. Both changes seem about the same to me. It's just silly to be up in arms about things like this when a) you aren't with the...

Re: Someone stealing the Ubuntu logo?

Ubuntu actually stole the logo from Human Rights First. So yeah.

  23. Re: Sys Admins are kind of like gods, aren't they?

Sysadmins can't do quite anything, they can't read other people's passwords for example. Though the sheer fact that sysadmins exist makes them more powerful than gods if you ask me :).
  24. Re: AT&T thinks because I use IRC... I've been hacked...

Because way more people use msn and Skype than IRC for legitimate purposes.
  25. Re: AT&T thinks because I use IRC... I've been hacked...

It's kind of nice they warn you. The kind of people who use IRC generally know enough to discard that warning confidently if it's incorrect.
