Ubuntu GNOME 16.04 with Dash to Dock (i.e. Unity done right)

In my opinion GNOME + Dash-to-Dock extension https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/307/dash-to-dock/ is the best DE.
Good job!
Don't forget to sustain the ticket to add F2FS support to the Ubuntu installer: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1261175
The download page does work now. I checked the SHA256 checksum and it is ok.
Me too... however...
Xubuntu 32-bit: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/releases/14.04/release/xubuntu-14.04-desktop-i386.iso
Xubuntu 64-bit:...
I don't know if this still apply, but I remember that Ubuntu LTS versions (i.e. 10.04) were based on Debian testing while non-LTS versions were based on Debian sid. Maybe some packages in Debian...

Everybody loses :D
Trusty Tahr is nice
Guess the Ubuntu 14.04 LTS codename... who will be the winner? :D
I say "Timeless Triton"
So... I tried to install Ubuntu on a EXT4 partition (with a different EXT4 /boot partition), then I booted from the Live CD and I copied the root partition content to an external USB drive (EXT4...
Ubuntu used to have a "Netbook Remix" which shipped Unity instead of the plain GNOME 2 interface. Now the main Ubuntu edition uses Unity, so the "netbook version" in just Ubuntu.
However, I think...
Some brainstorming (I didn't test it)...
[Edit: removed... useless...]
Btrfs is probably better on high-end SSD, while F2FS is specifically designed with the flash memory of mobile devices (smartphones, tablets etc.) in mind, which is similar to the low-end drive I have...
Yes but there are no Ubuntu installers with F2FS support. Also, it looks like there isn't an utility to resize the F2FS file-system (I can't see it in f2fs-tools), so I can't even try to install...
Hi,
I have an Acer Aspire One with a low-end SSD drive which is extremely slow. I'd want to try the new F2FS file-system which is specifically designed for this kind of flash memory drives. The...
"-h sha512" and ":sha512" are two different things, the first is ignored, the second is wrong (and maybe ignored too) because you don't use ESSIV: ":sha512" would be the hash used to generate IVs...
"-h sha512" doesn't have any effect because it is ignored. About :sha512 after the cipher, it is wrong because you don't use ESSIV, but I don't know the effect, maybe it's just ignored too.
I use...
Yeah, if you use cryptsetup without LUKS. But if you use LUKS, --hash is ignored because LUKS always uses SHA1/HMAC.
MAN:
Password processing is totally different for LUKS. LUKS uses PBKDF2...
--hash=sha512 doesn't have any effect using LUKS (it uses its own hashing mathod).
--cipher=aes-xts-benbi:sha512 isn't correct, why ":sha512"? You aren't using CBC-ESSIV, and why "xts-benbi"? The...
Application menu (if any!) is an application-thing and should be inside the application window. This mac-style approach is just wrong and illogical.
Could I install the official Ubuntu i386 Firefox package with --force-architecture ? Does it work?

Maybe a 686 kernel doesn't offer much when every other thing is 386 compiled.
Maybe Ubuntu kernel isn't very optimized.
Yeah... the difference is that Arch is all i686 compiled, not only the kernel :D and -mtune=pentium4 (if what you say is true) doesn't optimize much for amd CPUs.
