Yes, update-notifier is running.
avtolle: Is the "update manger" daemon the same as the "update notifier"? What is the actual daemon name so I can check with ps?
zebanon: That is the same as opening...
In the past, Update Manager would automatically know if there were updates that needed to be installed. But since I upgraded to Intrepid, I have to manually tell it to do so.
I have looked...
Go to System->Preferences->Screensaver
In the list of available screen savers should be "F-Spot photos" which should do what you are looking for.
Yes, we have to wait, but I am having the problem now. Here are the results of the above requested commands.

I just restarted the machine for other reasons, so here is the output without the problem.

I have noticed that if I leave Firefox (3.0.4) running all the time it consumes more and more of my system resources.
When I look at the output of "top" in a terminal, the "%wa" number is in the...
I asked for the xrandr output because I have had similar problems in the past. Sorry, it didn't give me any new ideas.

Interesting how everyone wants to get better resolution and folks are eager to help. But try to go the other way and nothing.
I have another idea to see what is going on with your graphics. Please post the output of
xrandr -q
There are some fairly complex answers here. I do it more simply. Of course, if you need a different xorg.conf, then you probably need to use some of the above solutions.
For me, I switch monitors...
I can get some output through the S-video port to my TV with the following:
xrandr --output S-video --mode 800x600
But my TV is only 640x480.
How can I make my output fit my TV?
Thanks.
I don't your particular setup, but you could try to shut off your laptop monitor by entering this command
xrandr --output LVDS --off
If it works, your laptop display will turn off and...
That is exactly the info you need. You are using an Intel GM965/GL960 Intergrated graphics card.
You could google something like "external monitor Intel GM965" and you will get a bunch of answers....
The info you posted is insufficient for you to get any help.
Can you post the results of
lspci
run in a terminal window so we can see what your exact video card is?
Have you tried xrandr?
I have all the updates for Hardy installed and I am still stuck using the vesa driver and not the ATI driver.
It is workable, but not great.
You don't say, but I bet both of you are using the OS ATI driver for your video cards. And I would venture you have older cards as well.
I have already opened a bug for this problem. I have not...

Thanks for the reply, but the instructions listed didn't do anything. I am beginning to wonder if it is the "new" ATI driver. Does anyone know if it is possible to go back to the previous version of...
I have an HP laptop with the ati igp 340M video card.
Under Gutsy, I could use xrandr to turn off the LVDS and then xorg would fill in the entire display on my external monitor. Since upgrading to...

I have been experimenting with xorg.conf settings and xrandr settings and I still have no external monitor.

Does anyone understand how to configure the new X? Everywhere I have read says to leave xorg.conf at the minimal settings that come from dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg. Is there any way to...
