I just bought a used laptop from a shop. I am of course going to be wiping Windows and installing Ubuntu, but I am wondering if I at that point I can trust the computer?
Are there any additional...
That is reassuring. Thanks alot for the help!
Thanks for the reply!
I did not install dirmngr on its own -- I don't know if it somehow go installed with some other software, but on this comp I haven't installed too much other than stock ubuntu,...
I was logging into a machine today, and in addition to the usual options (my account, remote login) there was a third option called dirmngr.
I logged out and it was gone, and restarted the machine...
Thanks for the reply :) Interesting, I've heard of that one before. However, doesn't it still send files over the internet? Isn't there a way of just syncing over usb?
I haven't tried any yet, but have also heard good things about LMMS and ardour. If you have some extra harddrive space and don't mind setting up a VM, why not give Ubuntu Studio a spin? They describe...
I actually meant to post this in the General Help forum. I apologize for accidentally posting it here. Can someone delete this duplicate thread? The new post is here. Sorry about that!

Is there any way to know that it's virus free? Being a noob, I have stuck to the official repos since they are supposedly checked and safe.
That's unfortunate it died, some of the nicest themes I seem to find are emerald.
This might be a silly question, but I'm a bit of a noob and tend to stick to the official repositories. I've found...
Thanks for the reply! I see, so gtk3 themes can work as well... I will give that a try.
Also, I installed qt4-qtconfig to try to fix my window-decoration-lacking qt apps issue. It lets me manually...
Ok, I think I'm starting to understand how the different themes interact (and I've run into a problem).
:KSWhat I think I've learned:
Gtk2 themes affect the window panels in Lubuntu and can be...
I'm going to play around with a few themes and see what I can get working and report back. Perhaps I'm not really framing my question clearly.
Very interesting sites, thanks. Hmmm, there don't seem to be "LXDE themes" there, only GTK1, GTK2, and XFCE themes.
I've taken a look at the themes section of http://opendesktop.org/?xsection=art,...
Thanks for the reply. I know a little about themes, but think I have confused myself :P
That does look like an interesting distro, and I may give it a try. I'm still confused about how the themes...
Thank you for the quick reply! I'm actually running Lubuntu as I mentioned, but I was wondering if there were general Linux theme-related info people could link me to, as it seems like multiple kinds...
I have never applied custom themes to my linux box, but am very interested in doing so. For someone just approaching it, it seems a bit daunting, because there are so many kinds of themes. I...
Thanks for the reply. I think you're right that the PC version will probably work best for virtualization, so I'll go with that right now. In case I might install it on my actual machine, does anyone...
What is the difference between lubuntu's standard PC 64bit version and the Mac 64bit version? I'm going to be running it in a VM on my mac, so either will probably work, but I was wondering what the...
Fair :) I'll give ubuntu + the kde packages a try since I know I want both sets of programs anyways. Just wanted to check first if there were any noticeable stability issues, etc. in doing so. Thanks...
Thanks! That is definitely what I was looking for! Is it fair to say the packages will be the same, or do you know if kubuntu configures them differently?
Thanks for the link! I actually came across it in my research. Though, I actually want the programs from unity/gnome and kde to try both.
The one thing I can't seem to determine is what the...
Thanks for the quick reply! I don't think I was clear enough with my original question. I'm planning on using the KDE environment either way, and was wondering what the differences exist in going...
