  1. [ubuntu] Re: Problems installing Ubuntu on Asus eee 900

I found the problem in my case. In the BIOS of my Asus eee 900, you can choose the boot order. I had chosen 1: Removable devices, 2: Harddisk. But it still did not boot.

    Then I realized another...

    1) Is there a way to check if the USB drive actually has an mbr, instead of just assuming?

    2) How do I tell the device name of my USB drive? When plugging it in, three new devices appear in /dev:...
  3. [ubuntu] Re: How to run lshw when not able to run Ubuntu

    Great. Thanks for the advice.

Btw. Why did they not just put these extra capabilities on the "standard" ISO instead of having to offer two versions?
  4. [ubuntu] Re: How to run lshw when not able to run Ubuntu

I would also believe that you could enter a shell from the Ubuntu installation cd but I just can not find it.

I ended up doing this with vmlinuz on SystemRescueCD, which is basically a "tool"...
  5. [ubuntu] How to run lshw when not able to run Ubuntu

I am trying to install Ubuntu on a laptop, but have some problems. I would like to run lshw and save output to help me understand what could be the problem. But I can not install Ubuntu, and I can...

[ubuntu] Re: how to install db2exc_972_LNX_x86

    Ok, I found it.

libaio.so.1 seems to be a file needed by most database systems.

One way of installing the file is using APT:

    sudo apt-get install libaio1

[all variants] Re: Which harddisks fit a given computer

This was an attempt for me to learn how to decipher the information that I get from lshw, and use that to know which hd's would work. However, since you are not able to tell, then I am probably not...

[all variants] Re: Which harddisks fit a given computer

    Great.

So now just one last question. How do I see if my disk controller supports e.g. ATA133. Because if not, then I might choose an ATA100 over an ATA133, if it is cheaper.

So I guess this is the command line equivalent:

    sudo aptitude purge xserver-org-input-wacom

If I change my mind, can I undo this simply by installing the same package again?
