I recently upgraded to 11.10 and I plan to upgrade to 12.04 in a few months.
My internet connection from one of my WAPs works great (an old Linksys), but when I connect with my newer D-Link 1522...
Well, I updated up to 11.10 and I've stopped there. It went very smoothly and my system works better than it did in 10.04. I'll wait a few months to update to 12.04.
But it is strange that you...
I had 10.04, but not 10.04.4, so the update manager would not let me update directly to 12.04.
I didn't know about the 10.04.4 version so I've started to update the OS's one by one until I get...
Darn, I just started the update process from 10.4 and it would not let me update directly to 12.4 (like I thought it should). So I'm in the middle of upgrading to 10.10 and I'll eventually get there....
I had the same problem and this solved it. Thanks for posting.
Somehow, everything is now working. The wired connection seems to be working as are both WAPs (the 2.4 GHz and the 5 GHz). But I have no idea how it was fixed. Chili555, thanks for your help on...
I'm at home now and the wireless is working on my 802.11g WAP at 2.4 GHz. I will try the wired connection and the 5 GHz WAP later this evening. But I still don't know how the driver for the new...
Sorry, it took some time to transfer the date via UBS drive:

It's back now to what it was originally:
# Generated by NetworkManager
domain xxxxx.com [i.e. my company's name.com]
search xxxxx.com
nameserver xxx.xx.xx.1x8
nameserver xxx.xx.xx.1x9
...
I did that and I still can not access the internet. When went into the gedit file it showed the primary DNS and the secondary DNS as follows:
nameserver xxx.xx.xx.118
nameserver xxx.xx.xx.119...
cat /etc/resolv.conf
# Generated by NetworkManager
Thanks for your continued help.
Just grasping at straws here. I reloaded Network Manager and uninstalled Wicd and at least now I can "see" wireless networks and the wireless monitor light on the laptop is on. But I can not...
And this is from the driver developer's website for the Intel driver download. Is this relevant? The problem is I don't really know what it means or what to do with it. Since the install process...
I don't completely understand the output, but it does seem to say that 802.11n is not available. Is that correct? Having 802.11n at 5 GHz is the only reason I upgraded in the first place.

I was concerned that Dell would do something like that--I had issues in years past upgrading memory on Dell desktops. I searched the internet before I bought it and found nothing suggesting a...
Unfortunately, unplugging the wired connection did not help. No wireless networks were recongized (they were recognized along with the wired network before with the 4312). Here is the result of ...

I'm still new to Linux, so please bear with me. I just replaced my Broadcom 4312 card with an Intel Centrino 6200-N card. The install went fine (dmesg | grep iwl shows that it's physically installed)...
I finally figured this out. The D-Link is duel mode (2.4 GHz/5 GHz) and mine was set to 5 GHz to better serve the Blue Ray DVD player (that was the reason for another WAP in my home). My Dell 1397...
I just found the thread below. Apparently, some wireless cards have problems running Ubuntu with a 5 GHz WAP/router speed. My D-Link 1522 is duel speed and I have been using the higher 5 GHz speed...
I'm a newbie, but my guess is that it is a setting in your wireless router's setup program that is causing the problem. I think that is why I can connect to one of my WAPs but not the other.
