See https://github.com/amonakov/primus for a description of primus. It will indeed be usable with the nvidia blob, although it is not exactly PRIME.

You do not need them, PRIME support for libxrandr is already upstreamed in 1.4.
When trying PRIME, you **must** disable bumblebeed since optirun will not cooperate with PRIME:

Having support from default repositories in 12.10 is too optimistic, maybe 13.04. Maybe a PPA will become available during 12.10. See also...

To fix the xkb issue, install "libxkbfile-dev" (may be necessary before building X).

Mesa is just one patch. Clone from git://anongit.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa and apply this patch on it (I'm using the master branch, but 8.x.x should be fine too).
Something to keep in mind: when...
Thank you for your suggestions, I have updated the description at https://launchpad.net/~lekensteyn/+archive/wacom-tablet.
Since no known issues have been reported for 0.13.0, I've uploaded a new package for Precise that supports the Intuos5 device. The precise xserver-xorg-input-wacom 0.14.0 package already supports...

It sounds like you've installed a mismatching nvidia driver. Can you add your /var/log/Xorg.8.log and the tail of your kernel log (/var/log/kern.log)?
I've just updated the Oneiric PPA for Cintiq 24HD support. As kernel 3.2 in Ubuntu Precise does not have support for this, I'll copy it for Precise as well.
The package for Oneiric is awaiting...
Citation needed for "battery drainage" on Bumblebee or Ironhide. The latest Bumblebee version (3.0 as of this writing) uses a kernel module for reliably toggling the power on nvidia Optimus cards.

Remove the nvidia-current package or install Bumblebee (see previous link) to fix resolution issues.
Have a look at http://askubuntu.com/q/36930/6969. You most likely have a /etc/X11/xorg.conf file present that should be removed. Reboot after doing so.
Since the kernel in Precise (3.2.0-15) still does not provide support for the 3rd gen tablets, I've copied the packages from Oneiric which works for me.
Even if you do not need to use the nvidia card, Bumblebee still has added advantages: it disabled the nvidia card to save power. It looks like the Optimus settings are disabled (in BIOS?)

You can open a run dialog and type the optirun command in, nothing fancy ;) The other way is to run optirun detached like this:
