Hi, could you post the content of your .xsessions-errors file located in your home directory.
+ This is something you should try (reset Unity):
sudo apt-get install dconf-tools
dconf...
sudo apt-get install dconf-tools
dconf reset -f /org/compiz/
setsid unity
Does this help? This should reset Unity.
Then try to launch Unity via terminal (just type unity). If it fails,...
Yep, I would also recommend a clean install, as your system seems to have some "critical" errors... :/
Yes, I think this is pretty much the case.
You could try the following, but it is not very likely to fix your problem (I'm looking for better workarounds at the moment :P )
mv ~/.cache/xfce...
Oh! Sorry I made a foolish mistake typing those commands there. They were supposed to be on their own lines, not on the same...
(The post is now *fixed*, pelase try the commands again,...
Hi there,
Have you installed any proprietary display drivers? Or changed any settings using tools like CCSM (CompizConfig Settings Manager)?
If you have or haven't done any of the above, you...
Hi, would you post the content of your /var/log/messages.log file? It might contain some useful information.
Sure there's nothing suspicious in /var/log/Xorg.0.log?
+ Can you log in as...
Hello,
I'm answering with a little knowledge from this area, but my laptop's media keys (I don't have the same laptop as you do) just started working after just upgrading to a newer distribution....
Hi there!
Phew, what a relief that that worked :D Now I can spend all nights just watching movies ;)
Nice to hear that your major problems are now fixed if we don't count that "login page...
Want to give one more try? :D
It looks like you do not have the following packages installed (see the list in step 2). You are also missing a few font packages, which could explain the font errors...
Does this help?
The content of your new gnome.desktop should look like this
[Desktop Entry]
Name=GNOME
Comment=This session logs you into GNOME
Exec=gnome-session --session=gnome...
Hello again. Yes this is exactly what I thought, but it didn't seem to work...
Do you have any session alternatives when you log in?
Computer savviness: 36
Didn't feel pretty nerdy when doing that :(
Huh? Could you clarify what do you mean by those "hot corners," do you mean that you can't set them up?
Does Unity start up normally after login? And do you want to get your Gnome 3 still working...
I hope GreggZed has the same kind of problem as nevle does :P
You're welcome!
I'm glad if this helped you :)
If you give me some time, I will try to look for a solution! Reinstall is the last resort, if we can't find any working solution for this.
Thanks for posting the error :)
Well this misconception was already corrected but thanks anyways :D
Do you philinux know any easy solution for nevle's problem? It seems to be quite complicated.
Nevle: You can start the Gnome...
Ubuntu 12.10 doesn't seem to detect your fluxbox, because you don't get the options for selecting the session... You should have at least two valid sessions to be able to select among them.
...
Well, okay let's try reinstalling your Gnome 3. Get to the terminal and type
sudo apt-get install --reinstall gnome-shell
Then let me know what it did.
Let me ask a few questions:
What do you mean by "no options"? Do you mean that you can't select the session you want to log on?
Did you follow my instructions? They will affect only Unity, not...
There is a tool named 'Unity Tweak Tool', and I guess GreggyZed used it in order to change settings.
In raring ringtail, you can not open a terminal window by pressing CTRL+F1. Try CTRL+ALT+F1.
...
Well yes you could, by going to 'Preferences' -> 'Profile & Backend' and selecting 'Reset to defaults' under 'Profile'.
Hello, you could try resetting your unity with dconf-tools. Give it a try:
sudo apt-get install dconf-tools
dconf reset -f /org/compiz/
setsid unity
