    My vostro v13 is hanging after waking up from a resume. Every few seconds the keyboard will pause and drop a key stroke, and the system is sluggish.

    It is not a CPU issue, its usage stays low...

    The more I think about it, the best route will probably just have a partition that is encrypted that has to be mounted manually.

    holy god thats expensive, I guess I misunderstood you. I thought you meant setup a box that is a terminal server for thin clients and connect it directly to the file server via the serial port.

    Its a kernel issue. Linux Mint 7 detects the drive fine, and the only major difference between that and 9.10 when it comes to something a basic has harddrive detection would be the kernel.

    gparted does not detect the drive

    SATA is SATA, how you control it is either IDE or AHCI, the latter being the prefered method for the future. Irregardless, neither work.

    Thanks for all the help everyone. I managed to recover the computer completely by using ClamAV to stabilize the machine then run MS's CareOne.

    Strangely the additional Virii that CareOne found...

    Yes it is, and is currently running. Only 11% in on the virus scan and already have "30 items detected, 6 issues found". Clam was reporting 0 virus. :?
