Re: I would prefer Ubuntu tablet

I, too, would have preferred a tablet. "Wide ranging capabilities" migh take a while though, Before the iPad was released, people were willing to pay $1000 dollars because they were expecting to have...

Re: Are the days of the desktop numbered?

I like this attitude. I'm a huge proponent of the tablet and will defend them, but I will not go on the offensive against those who wish to use desktops. I can understand why it is preferred by many,...

    Re: Ubuntu For Android

I'm certainly looking forward to it, but I fear that phone manufacturers are going to destroy it by adding their own hideous skins and crapware.
  4. Poll: Re: How many of you have gone completely to a laptop?

My five-year old laptop remains on to seed torrents, organize files (mainly camera photos), or the occasional typing task. But there are many days when I don't use it at all. A tablet is my main...

Poll: Re: HP Thrive or ASUS Transformer? or Touchpad?

HP has only pushed out two minor updates, the latest being version 3.0.4 (skipping odd numbered updates). I think the web browser is the most used application on tablets and the web browser on the...

Re: Software Centre promoting paid applications

This is what I assumed, but I wanted it in writing. So I guess it's the same as the Mac App Store. Buy once, install on all computers (with your account), and re-download as many times as you need.

Re: Software Centre promoting paid applications

I'd love to start buying software from the Software Center, but I'm not really interested in games or magazines. Musictube is really the only interesting one for me, but I'll have to research the...

    Re: Intel's Ultrabook

I posted on G+ that I would keep a close watch on anything regarding Ubuntu on a Zenbook. This is certainly the first attempt I've seen. Good luck and please keep us updated.

Poll: Re: Do you own an Apple product?

Pricing for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch have been very competitive compared to rival manufacturers with products of similar specs. The premium design is just an added bonus.

    More powerful...

I scoffed at tablets during the iPad launch and subsequent competitors. But after obtaining a TouchPad during the firesale, I'm convinced that these are the computers I will be spending most of my...

Poll: Re: Do you own an Apple product?

I love their iMac line. I had an iMac G5 and replaced it with an iMac 21.5". Amazing machines.

    Re: Ubuntu pad concept

Very cool, edgie. Could you explain some of your design decisions, like materials, bezel size, and tablet shape?
  15. Re: SO how active is the Ubuntu development for tablets?

Since everyone else is seemingly clueless and moving towards the tablet black hole, it looks like Ubuntu will have the entire operating system market after all.

Re: Why Google+ Circles are pointless.

I really like Google+'s implementation of circles. If I'm posting something that my real-life friends will find unbelievably boring, I'll just post it to my tech circles. For inside jokes, I'll post...

  21. Re: how do I get a Mac OS in virtual box running on ubuntu 11.04

The new EULA for Mac OS 10.7 (Lion) allows for virtualization of the OS, but only under Mac OS X (i.e. Mac OS X guest and host).

Re: How To install libreoffice ui mock-ups ?

Install it as a theme? Unfortunately, you won't be able to do that. The SVG file is not a theme. It's an image file - an artist's mockup of the interface.

Re: Center an element in GIMP

Thanks NightwishFan! Like CarpKing, I've also been a long-time user and have never used the align-tool. I actually finished a project yesterday and had to do it by eye.
  24. Re: If You Already Hate Windows 8 Then You Hate Technology

Metro is their "touch first" UI. It resembles their phone interface: no windows, no chrome - mainly content. Windows 8 will also have the traditional desktop and yes, I'd love to see workspaces on it.
  25. Re: If You Already Hate Windows 8 Then You Hate Technology

Workspaces are great on a desktop interface, but you really want workspaces in Metro?
