I have the same issue. After I enable transcoding Mediatomb fails to start.

I still can't install/uninstall anything :confused:
I get this error: dpkg: parse error, in file '/var/lib/dpkg/available' near line 6543 package 'perl-base':
`Conflicts' field, missing package...

The Solution is

sudo mv /var/lib/dpkg/status /var/lib/dpkg/status.bad
sudo cp /var/lib/dpkg/status-old /var/lib/dpkg/status
sudo apt-get update

I still get the error, after
dpkg --configure -a I get this error
dpkg: parse error, in file '/var/lib/dpkg/status' near line 6350 package 'perl-base': `Conflicts' field, missing package name, or...

I'm getting this error:
Reading package lists... Error!
E: Problem parsing dependency Conflicts
E: Error occurred while processing perl-base (NewVersion1)
E: Problem with MergeList...

I got it working! The problem was in the path to the conkyconf.
