    If i use that method, then everything works, but i don't have a new enough version of the driver to use CUDA. That gets me version 260 of the driver, and CUDA needs 270.

    Are you sure it is your IP address there? I think usually it's your router's.

    You could try backing up that file, and replacing it with a file containing just:

    nameserever <your router's ip...

    Ok, i marked as solved prematurely (can i change that?). After restarting i am back to where i was before. Do i need to configure Ahavi somehow? Set it to run on startup?

    Thanks capscrew, i installed avahi-daemon and avahi-autoipd, restarted networking and voila! everything works now.

    I'm not sure if i needed to install both of those, but it's working...
