[all variants] Chromium using too much memory?

Hi, I've been using Ubuntu for ages, but I'm useless when it comes to anything "under the bonnet" so to speak, so I'm posting here to appeal to the patience of people who check these threads :)

  3. [all variants] Re: Toshiba Portege R700 / R705 Linux Hardware Compatibility Thread

    Hi everyone

    Considering the upgrade to 11.04...

But I have to select an old kernel now to keep my laptop from crashing everytime I unplug it. Will that still be there for me to select if I...
  4. [all variants] Re: Toshiba Portege R700 / R705 Linux Hardware Compatibility Thread

Can't say with mine. I'm never offline or eth, really.

But for me, it's only when the power is unplugged. Once I'm plugged in, it's all good.
  5. [all variants] Re: Toshiba Portege R700 / R705 Linux Hardware Compatibility Thread

Huh. I think this is what is going wrong with my R700. While the upgrade to 10.10 fixed a ton of stuff: headphones/video playback/audio playback/brightness, it has seriously killed my ability to work...

    [ubuntu] Weird video player problem

I can't play videos anymore on my laptop. I'm on 10.04.

.mp4 and .avi files just load up and stall on the first frame.

I downloaded VLC player and it only plays without audio, which isn't much...
  7. [all variants] Re: Toshiba Portege R700 / R705 Linux Hardware Compatibility Thread

The alsa upgrade worked great -- now I can use headphones. That was driving me nuts.

    Omerp --

How do I make that script for the resume bug executable? Or do I just create the file and save it?
  8. [all variants] Re: Toshiba Portege R700 / R705 Linux Hardware Compatibility Thread

Thanks! This is such a useful post!

I have the 15U as well, and I love it -- apart from the headphones issue and I'm having battery life issues. Not sure what's up there, but I'm starting to think...
  9. [ubuntu] Re: Fresh install, speakers good, headphones (not USB) won't work

Thanks for the suggestion... didn't work :(

One thing I didn't mention -- when I plug in the head phones, the external speakers go silent, so it knows the headphones are plugged in.... there's...

  11. [ubuntu] Re: Fresh install, speakers good, headphones (not USB) won't work

    Thanks for replying!

When I bring those things up, there's no option at all for headphones. No headphone slider or an unticked box...
  12. [ubuntu] Fresh install, speakers good, headphones (not USB) won't work

I got my new Toshiba R700 yesterday and I'm on a nice, shiny fresh install of 10.04

  13. [ubuntu] HTC Desire and Ubuntu 10.04 -- uses phone for data even on "charge only" setting

I got a phone call yesterday from my service provider telling me I'd exceeded my 2GB limit this month by 14.4 GB and my bill is well over €240 + tax. She asked do I use tethering, I said, "I tried it...
