ubuntu-restricted-extras or in a terminal do
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras ur pw won't show as you type it out..
so u tried rerunning dpkg --configure -a did u add a sudo in front on the command dpkg --configure -a ??
srry mate :) didn't see u said u rebooted..hehe, apt-get clean removes all files in cache in the /var/cache/apt directory...
autoclean removes nolonger installed files, example if u installed lynx...

how ol' is ur jumpdrive?? take a look at the logs in /var/log/ esp. messages and system?? are there anything adnormal u see in there??
i'd suggest that with the intel internal card that it can't handle the effects and the OS is stopping it from coming up... did you install all updates?? Other may as well suggest getting a Nvidia/Ati...
did u burn the disc at 4x or less? if not try re-burning the disc at that lowe a speed...then check the checksum of the disc...
in the FF browser at top type about:plugins does it say Shockwave Flash 9.0 r124 if so we are running the same flash ver.
well, u can make it look like ur on windows :) using the mozilla broswer...or some other unknown OS, or even a secret version of FF that nobody has ever heard of...

OEM is for Companies to install on many computers at once without having to manually type out the initial info. on each and every computer at once...or so...
