    I did have a problem like this, but in that case, an error was shown, saying I don't have permission to shutdown.

    But a hard restart solved the issue..

    The advantages of 64-bit are better memory handling when mem size>4GB, better video rendering capabilities(when the video quality is HD, Blu-ray or 3-D).

    Nope. For upgrading from 11.04 ot12.04 you'll have to go through 11.10.

    Otherwise do a fresh and clean install by downloading 12.04LTS from the Ubuntu site.
