Same here. Just got a new Dell Latitude 5520 *laptop* installed 11.04. Everything looked swell, but the shut down hung. Also, hibernation didn't work. Dug around the bug reports and found some...
I also was getting ...
ncsvc> Failed to setuid to root. Error 1: Operation not permitted
This error only started after I moved my home directory over to a new partition as described here...
Looks like they fixed the video driver problem in 10.10! I've been running Maverick for about two weeks with no zebra crash ever. Finally! I can now use Ubuntu w/out hassles.

jruberto, tried all those settings and still am getting random crashes.
I upgraded to 10.04. Still no luck. The most recent bug entry is ......
I've a Dell Inspiron 1100 too ... the internet connection slows down a bit, but I think it might be an overall X windows issue with the Intel 845G video card. Does X drop to a blank screen and then...
I have the exact same problem. I'm running 10.04 on the dell inspiron 1100. Very frustrating!!
Searching launchpad for i845g bugs shows a lot of similar issues.
It's been around for a while...
