That was me the issue is not assembling the raid latter though that works fine the problem is that the system won't boot period. Even doing something innocuous like trying to reuse an old disk that...
  2. [ubuntu] Re: Upgraded 11.04->11.10 - system now says raid 1 array degraded

This is great work, I rolled my system back to 11.04 for the time being so I am going to see if I can setup a vmware instance to reproduce the issue and test the solution. I posted it to the bug...

    [ubuntu] Re: 11.10 Can't Boot without BOOT_DEGRADED=true

    The

    GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=text
option did the trick, I get a boot when I can easily see everything on the screen and I now have a way to fairly reliably trigger the RAID issue.

    Thanks to both...

    [ubuntu] Re: 11.10 Can't Boot without BOOT_DEGRADED=true

Thanks for the information, I will give it a try first thing in the morning, unfortunately in my haste to get a system back up (once I am in a bad cycle this requires pulling the drives from one...

    [ubuntu] Re: 11.10 Can't Boot without BOOT_DEGRADED=true

If it is that particular function taking a while could I add a sleep 5 to the script right then for he same effect? This way I could target it at exactly the spot the old function was executing from.

    [ubuntu] Re: 11.10 Can't Boot without BOOT_DEGRADED=true

Thanks for the info, I will do some research and see if I can find a grub option as well since I need to wait for my other issues to be solved before I can put this fix in place. I found a second...
  7. [ubuntu] Re: Upgraded 11.04->11.10 - system now says raid 1 array degraded

I am having similar issues, I posted a separate thread on the issue. It looked like the boot degraded was going to fix it, but even that is failing sometimes saying it can't boot degraded. Frankly...

    [ubuntu] Re: 11.10 Can't Boot without BOOT_DEGRADED=true

That did solve my funky display problem, do you happen to know how I would make that change in a config file so it would survive an update-grub.

It also I believe got me a bit closer to figuring...

    [ubuntu] Re: 11.10 Can't Boot without BOOT_DEGRADED=true

Good advice, and actually something I do routinely now with a system upgrade is to drop all my arrays from fstab before an upgrade so I can confirm the md devices themselves are all getting set up...

    [ubuntu] 11.10 Can't Boot without BOOT_DEGRADED=true

I started last night attempting to do an upgrade to 11.10. The upgrade seemed to go well, but after completing I was unable to get the system to boot. Hooking the thing up to a minitor I noticed...

Thanks YesWeCan that worked for me as well...good thing I came back to this thread to check it out for some reason the auto-notify feature had stopped notifying me.

[ubuntu] Re: RAID starting at md127 instead of md0

Some additional information, after boot the status of the array is:

    cat /proc/mdstat

    Personalities : [linear] [multipath] [raid0] [raid1] [raid6] [raid5] [raid4] [raid10]
    md127 : active...

I am running photorec now targeted at JPGS and it is pulling a good deal of stuff off the disk. I was also going to give UFS explorer a try once photorec completes.

[ubuntu] XFS Filesystem on RAID 5

This issue started for me after upgrading to 11.04, but at this point I think I am well past upgrade related issues and on into general problems. First a background.

    After upgrading my 5 disk...
