Re: New Features in Ubuntu 14.10 "Utopic Unicorn"?

I've been running Ubuntu Gnome 14.10 on newer and older (2006) laptop partitions since Alpha 1, and backward compatibility doesn't seem to be an issue. There is a problem with...

    [SOLVED] Re: Broadcom BCM4311, Ubuntu 12.04 / 13.04

For what it's worth, this is not a universal fix and breaks the wireless connection on some machines. Mine runs fine on the bcmwl-kernel-source but not at all on the nonfree version.
  3. [SOLVED] Re: CBC video just show a black rectangle in Firefox and Chromium

You will probably need to install the pepperfhashplugin for Chromium, if that's what you have installed. I use Ghostery and also needed to enable Conviva.

    The pepperflashplugin installs the latest...

[SOLVED] Re: Extras Repository "Not Found"

I expect it will have to wait until 19 December.
  5. Re: I'm back testing Ubuntu (Trusty) after a lengthy absence!

For a pre-alpha, it's quite stable. I found it easier to get my Broadcom internal wireless adapter working than previous versions, not even requiring a reboot after installing the needed files.

[ubuntu] Re: How to create desktop shortcut in Ubuntu 13.10 ?

I use Cairo-Dock for my frequently used apps. The latest version has a search function.
  7. Re: upgrade to 13.10 after you suspend, network is disabled and cant be enabled

If any of you are using cairo-dock, disable the auto-starting, reboot and see if the problem persists. It resolved my suspend problem and the reboot/shutdown functions were reactivated as well.

[ubuntu] Re: Grub2 chainload mbr backup.

It's probably easier to install grub-customizer from the PPA. It doesn't reorder the grub menu, but it does allow for choosing the default boot.

It happens to me when opening a pdf from a Microsoft Help Attribution Definition File source. Opening others from the web isn't an issue.

    [ubuntu] Re: very slow booting

Mine, at least the 32 bit version of 12.10 hangs for a full minute at nf-conntrack, but only for 5 seconds on my 64 bit version of Quantal.

Any ideas why this is happening?

I have the same issue in 12.10. It would be appreciated to get some response.
  12. Re: Ubuntu crashes: "Could not write byte: broken pipe"

Get rid of all your fglrx and nvidia files except nvidia-common. Worked for me, and they aren't installed at all in 12.10.

Poll: Re: 13.04 should be dedicated to performance.

I just did a fresh install of 12.10 on a desktop that was originally built on Hardy Heron. All the stuff accumulated over the years was slowing it down.

Now it boots in seconds and runs much...
  14. [ubuntu] Re: Cannot mount partition - No object for D-Bus interface

I have the same problem with my 64 bit Quantal partition. It doesn't happen on every reboot, but it's annoying when it does.

[ubuntu] Re: Need help mounting a drive

I had copied a file from my other partition into the folder containing the encripted files. Moving it out solved the problem.

[ubuntu] Re: Boot time under 12 seconds

I have two partitions both running Quantal. One boots much faster than the other, and I suspect it may be related to VirtualBox.

I have BUM installed on both, and that's the only difference I can...

In Firefox, right click on a blank area of the page and select 'view page info'. Under the media tab there may be what you're looking for. Select and save the file.

Thanks - changing from 'freedesktop' to 'ubuntu' restored a host of missing sounds.
  19. [SOLVED] Re: 11.10: Nautilus-gksu extension not working for me

If gksu is installed, try alt+F2 then gksu nautilus.

You should be able to open and edit any file from there.

I prefer sushi as it plays until stopped. When it was a mouseover, it started from the beginning if you moved the mouse off, on purpose or not.

[SOLVED] Re: How to make wallpaper change every N minutes?

You need to have Wally up and running to get it working. I started it as a command line, but didn't want to keep the terminal running, so I added it via alacarte (main menu).
