[ubuntu] Re: initramfs busybox issues + cannot mount HD

Update: I am in the process of recovering the data.

    What I did was:
    * boot from the sysrecoverycd
    * shrink the partition with Gparted (it was a 1TB harddrive and I didn't have an external so...

[ubuntu] Re: initramfs busybox issues + cannot mount HD

There's definitely something out of the ordinary going on. The HD is only 5 months old, and supposedly is in good health based on what the Disk Utility said earlier today (obviously the reality is...

[ubuntu] [SOLVED] initramfs busybox issues + cannot mount HD

The issue started with a reboot after installing an upgrade package in Lucid Lynx. I was getting the initramfs errors. I did a search, found some old threads from 2008, the options listed didn't...
  4. Is Canon "Dust Delete Data" compatible in linux software?

Some of Canon's DSLRs are able to take a blank image of the dust on the sensor. The data is embedded into each photo and can be removed during processing. Do you know if any of the multitude of...

Re: Need a simple photo program

You can always try Gimp, but it sounds like there is some underlying problem beyond the photo-editing software... Good luck; sorry you lost time with the editing. That is always a pain :(

Re: Need a simple photo program

Well, you could try the export to CD function, but it sounds like the new modified files are not being recognized.

I wonder that the fact that your pics are on the desktop matters...

Re: Need a simple photo program

OK, but when you check the location of where the files are saved, do you notice that you have double copies of the files, with the ones that you have edited appearing as filename (Modified).JPEG?...

Re: Need a simple photo program

Can you check the folder in which the photos are saved? In my installation of F Spot, it auto saves the file as original_file_name (Modified).JPEG

That way you are protected from accidentally...

Re: Please forgive me, but.........a little rant

Sometimes people have a preconceived idea of what the answer is, and they want you to verify that for them, not suggest something new!

The search function of the webpage seems to be lost on many...

Re: Word For Idea Thought To Be Original?

I'm only coming up with phrases and they're not quite synonymous to your thought:
    previously seen/read
    prior knowledge
    preconceived idea

It might be better to say something like, "the idea...

Poll: [photography] Re: Which Digital Camera?

I'm sure it will. The reviews looked quite promising, and it does have the advantage of being a substantially more discrete than my monstrosity! :)

Re: A Rant about People Who Rant about Spelling

I don't see how that logically follows. I don't see how a stammer would undermine the content of what someone is saying and cause that person to lose credibility.

    Steven Hawkings does have a...

Re: A Rant about People Who Rant about Spelling

Right on. Everyone has different strengths. As long as discourse can occur, the errors don't really matter; and the fun thing about English being so fluid is that some of yesterday's "errors" are...

I did not read that quote as putting anyone down; in fact, it seems to be saying that he understood that there are legitimate...

Re: A Rant about People Who Rant about Spelling

howefield, I've seen that one before. It is impressive that we can actually sort that out in our heads. I think that's the only reason I have any idea what my students are trying to write sometimes...

Poll: [photography] Re: Which Digital Camera?

Re: A Rant about People Who Rant about Spelling

Although I am sometimes annoyed at incorrect usages of your/you're and they're/their/there, unless spelling or grammar issues get in the way of understanding, it doesn't matter in the long run.

Re: Is it legal to download YouTube videos?

Youtube's TOS is an agreement between you and the company.

Theoretically, they could block you from using their...

  25. [SOLVED] Re: With Gimp, how do I erase everything but the contours (black lines) in a picture?

There is the free-select tool, which looks like a lasso. I've done that before, but it takes painstaking effort and very good hand-eye coordination. It doesn't auto-select for you, you have to be...
