    I have the following packages installed:

    libgtk2.0-dev
    python-gtk2-dev
    python-gobject-dev
    python-gnome-devdesktop-dev
    python-notify

    Am I missing something here?

    I use kmidimon, a midi monitor, to see what is happening between my VOX Tonelab SE pedal board and my Ubuntu box.
    I do run Gnome, but prefer kmidimon over gmidimon
