I have now run
fsck -r /dev/sda1
and that fixed it. Able to mount and I am now back in. Thanks.:D

I changed from 9.04 to 10.04. I did this by doing a fresh install while maintaining my home as a separate partition.
All went well, except that Flash did not work in Firefox (but did in Chrome)....
Did you install flash following the unofficial ubuntu guide?

May more likely be an issue with the graphics card as you have identified rather than with flash player.
This is embarrassing.
It was just me. The file ~/.grsync/grsync.ini had somehow been changed to place the window on another desktop so I could not see that it was already open.
I have just tried to run grsync, and it doesn't start.
I haven't done a back-up for a while so I am getting worried.
Has anyone else had problems running grsync?
grsync version is 0.6.1-3

Hardy 32 bit, Wine 1.1.12, e-sword 8.0.6
NIV installed fine.:D
All works wonderfully.:D...
Thanks also for the explanation about e-sword. I see now that my suggestions for a Linux e-sword were far too fanciful. Looks like we stick with Wine.
