    We haven't found out why pdfs were not being recognised and then what fixed it.
    I suppose that would need one to be sitting with the source code for Firefox and run...

    All this fiddling has changed my Firefox behaviour. Somehow clicking on the fullcircle link has corrected something.
    Now it recognizes the downloads as being pdf. What changed matters, I don't know....

    I have since had a kernel update.
    Everything ran smoothly and the client starts up correctly, thus indicating that the kernel modules updated correctly.

    And the vbox rebuild seems to have happened automatically....
