  1. [ubuntu] Re: Nvidia config detects dual displays but Unity doesn't?

Ah OK. I'll try that and see what happens. Thank Chris. I mean, Vlad.
  2. [ubuntu] Re: Nvidia config detects dual displays but Unity doesn't?

After several hours of research on this - I think the situation is hopeless.

In theory, if you check "Enable Xinerama" (would it have killed them to call this "Use both displays" or something?...
  3. [SOLVED] Re: Unity desktop not initialising on 2nd monitor

Hi - I'm getting exactly this problem too (just posted a separate thread question though). I see this thread is marked "solved" though - is it?
  4. [ubuntu] Nvidia config detects dual displays but Unity doesn't?

Using Ubuntu 14.04 with these two cards (reported by lspci):

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF116 [GeForce GTX 550 Ti] (rev a1)
    02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA...

[all variants] No way of easily using PGP/GPG any more?

PGP/GPG signing and encrypting files used to be sort of easy using Ubuntu. For a few years I was using a Gedit plugin that allowed me to do it via the clipboard for plain text files, for example....

Re: Is it safe to install 12.10 with Nvidia?

OK thanks. When I installed 12.10, it went with the Nouveau drivers but they didn't run in 3D, so I didn't get things like the HUD, for example, and the system dies every time it went to sleep.

Is it safe to install 12.10 with Nvidia?

A couple of months ago, I merrily installed (from scratch, not an update) Quantal 12.10 64bit after having run 12.04.2 LTS just fine with my GeForce GTX 550Ti.

    Big mistake. Nothing ran properly...

    [lubuntu] Re: Video Card Drivers?

Do you have an NVidia graphics card? If so, and you're trying to install Ubuntu 12.10, there is an amazingly huge bug right now that prevents you from being able to install the right video driver for...

[ubuntu] Re: Does deja dup on 12.04 work at all?

OK so a I take it that this is a "no" to my original question. Deja Dup doesn't work on 12.04. Kinda strange as it's installed by default.

    Oh well.

[ubuntu] Re: Does deja dup on 12.04 work at all?

I could use grsync, but I'd rather use my 5GB of free space on U1 (and I'm not sure if grsync does incrementals).

[ubuntu] Does deja dup on 12.04 work at all?

I'm a little unclear after searching through the bugs - but is anyone able to use Deja Dup on 12.04 at all? I've tried it with a fresh install using U1 and it backs up manually OK, but if you put it...
  12. [ubuntu] Re: FirewallD is not running. Network printer detection needs services mdns, ipp, ipp

I've been able to set up my printer using system-config-printer (you may need to install it if it's not on your system already). The setup wizard on that works fine.

    But really, WTF Ubuntu? I'm...

[ubuntu] Re: Firewire: Can't capture video with 10.10

I solved this by buying a new FireWire card in the end, it seems it was to do with that and not the camera itself:

    (it has a TI...

[ubuntu] Well, there goes my iPhone

Since IOS 4.2, Ubuntu no longer mounts my iPhone, nor can Rhythmbox see the music on it.

Oh well, that's the last Apple product I'm using then. Looking forward to Android! ;)

[ubuntu] Re: Why is /dev/raw1394 read-only??

You may also be able to put chmod 777 /dev/raw1394 into the system startup scripts (eg the file /etc/rc.local) so it changes the permissions on boot.
