I've worked it out. I made changes to /etc/samba/smb.conf as follows:
in [global] at the top

# Change this to the workgroup/NT-domain name your Samba server will part of

Since installing the latest Ubuntu 10.04 kernel I can only boot through failsafeX

The log says:

Then it advises me to remove...

What happens if you wait for 5 minutes without any live session, and then reboot?

I don't even have to let the live disk finish loading. I can restart half way through the process and my laptop...

May have to but I don't like the new interface.

I am running 10.04. When I boot my laptop it seizes after the very first screen. If I reboot with the live disk, go on line then restart without the disk my machine will boot properly.

I use 10.04. I have just reinstalled ruby 1.9.2 and rails 3.0.6.rc1.
When I try rake db:migrate, I get:

I don't like 12.04. The Acer used to have wifi with 10.04

and tell me the names of the kernels there.My grub screen
