first, is the proper mike/camra drivers intalled? can you test your setup in another program?

it seems that compiz cpu usage is high
you can try unity-2d with:
sudo apt-get install unity-2d
for less background cpu usage (but less efects)
or a diffrent DE like ldxe/xfce.

if you "can't just choose the file from computer" maybe you need to set the executable bit. right click, choose properties, the click the executable box. then run in wine and maybe it will work.
