Some people prefer making their own cars from scratch because:
1. They enjoy it.
2. They learn a lot building it.
LFS is similar. You build & configure everything yourself. If you're new to...

Exactly my thoughts on all three points. Learn more. No change in the firewall settings needed if you are using a default ubuntu desktop system. Yes, use noscript.
I remember seeing this problem but not sure where. Probably in a launchpad bug report. Search it.
Try also these:

That's normal. Just type in the password and press enter.
You can install a CLI system (see my sig) and install a desktop on it later on:
sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop
But why aren't you using a regular xubuntu cd or the xubuntu alternate cd?...
Can't you add those printers using the printer tool you can find somewhere in system menu in the top panel?
Else try to find their drivers in http://www.openprinting.org/
Try

as suggested above or maybe it's enought to use one of the user agent changing extensions for firefox.
There are some links in the Part B of CLI in my sig.
I don't know about FakeRAID but let me comment on your partitioning:
For boot 150MB is enough. If you're going to compile your own kernels then increase it to 500MB.

In general I use vlc but it seems that mplayer is better in firefox.
I have never tried it but vlc has that capability. I prefer mounting remote folders using sshfs as local ones. Then a remote folder becomes no different than a local one.
This happened to me a few months ago. See
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=818089
See

Install ssh-server on the server and sshfs in the client and then you can mount it using
sudo sshfs user@remote.machine:/remote.dir /where/to/mount -o allow_other
See my posts here to...
Sorry I missed that.
I can think of a few ways to do it.
1) To begin with you can simply use the name
/dev/disk/by-uuid/<???numbers???>
See "Installation Problems" in my sig for a list of things to try. I suggest you give the alternate cd a try.
Gnome has no such feature.

You can appoint a certain device name to a card. Do you always use the same card?

You need to search "kiosk" in these forums. See also this.
You need to add your drive to /etc/fstab. There are guides around. Search them. See this one for example.
Why don't you install the driver using Hardware Drivers which is available in the system menu > admin. or you can use envy.
If you want to install it manually press esc during boot and choose...
If you use "noauto" in fstab it will not mount automatically. You need to use "auto" to mount it automatically. But this may not work with sshfs because it may try to mount it before a network...
Do what it says. Open a terminal and try
sudo dpkg --configure -a
